Betsy DeVos Secretary of Education nominee

January 30, 2017 by Jarrod Walley 2 Comments

By Jarrod Walley |Staff Writer| The Senate committee decision for Betsy DeVos's nomination for Secretary of Education was postponed to Jan. 31, after troublesome hearing for her confirmation. The hearing for DeVos took place last Tuesday, Jan. 17, before the Senate committee regarding her nomination for Secretary of Education. It was televised and also made available online by Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN). The Secretary of Education is responsible for—among with other duties—overseeing educational policies, managing Federal Aid banks and distributing millions in Pell Grants. All of these are directly related to federally-funded schools, including CSUSB. There … [Read more...] about Betsy DeVos Secretary of Education nominee

College life in 2030

June 9, 2016 by Archived posts 104 Comments

By Joshua Aguilar |Staff Writer| Our world is changing every day, and as students we have the power to make it change for the better. We may not have the ability to foresee the future, but we can always sit back and imagine what life will be like in the year 2030. The future can be both exciting and frightening to think about how much our daily choices can shape the future 14 years from now. Students change so much in the four years that they spend here at CSUSB, adding another 10 years of transformation to their lives will yield an incredible difference between the students of today and of the future. Student Darelle Amores shared how he thinks college life will be different … [Read more...] about College life in 2030

Who should win the election? The battle between candidates

June 9, 2016 by Archived posts 233 Comments

By Destiny Guzman |Staff Writer| Altering decisions, wavering assurances and childish play characterize the presidential campaigns for 2016. Who will win in the midst of all this chaotic disorder? The answer is Senator Bernie Sanders! "I’m for Bernie Sanders because he is for me; he is for all of us," said student Julissa Gallegos. Sanders supports tuition-free public colleges and universities, and it resonates with me as a student because of my fellow students’ experience with crippling debt. "Mr. Sanders has inspired candidates pushing policies like tuition-free public colleges and universal health care, initiatives that were once regarded as radical but that now have the support of … [Read more...] about Who should win the election? Presidential Election is not a Joke

May 12, 2016 by Israel Ramirez 42 Comments

By Israel Ramirez |Staff Writer| I do not think this presidential election is a joke. Every four years, the Oval Office is up for grabs. 2016 presidential elections kicked off with 24 candidates and now, only three remain in the race for the presidency. Sixteen candidates have dropped from the Republican Party, two of them being Kasich and Cruz who have both left leaving Donald Trump as the only runner. The Democratic Party that initially began with six candidates is now left with Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. At the beginning, these presidential debates gave me the impression that they were unprofessional rather than presidential. The debates on both sides have … [Read more...] about Presidential Election is not a Joke

Students protest debt and minimum wage

November 24, 2015 by Manuel Sandoval 9 Comments

By Manuel Sandoval |Staff Writer| Students nationwide protested as part of the Million Student March on Nov. 12 in hopes of a $15 minimum wage for all campus workers, free college tuition, and cancellation of all student debt.   Students from more than 100 campuses including the UC system and some private colleges on the east coast showed their support during the march.   On the Twitter account for the march, students were given chants to recite and advised to walk out of class. The march was organized through social media and the goals were inspired by a comment U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders made, insisting that it would take a million students marching to make … [Read more...] about Students protest debt and minimum wage
