Racial Ambiguity

March 1, 2016 by Archived posts 1 Comment

By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| Have you ever been asked, "What are you?" Have you ever wondered about someone's mysterious ethnic background? "Someone that is racially ambiguous does not possess the stereotypical physical attributes of his or her supposed racial category. It is the physical features that one notices first about another individual when trying to determine that person’s racial identity," as defined by Cindy Veronica Vargas in the study, "What Are You? A Study Of Racial Ambiguity." "Skin color, hair texture, facial features are racial markers that … [Read more...] about Racial Ambiguity

By Ezequiel Ramos |Staff Writer| Downtown Riverside is home to the Riverside Art Museum, a place that houses unique and interesting paintings and sculptures. Jacky has modeled for American Apparel since 2011. This has been by far her best and most powerful image. When this picture was published on Facebook, the head title for this astonishing picture was "Sexy has no expiration date." Many Facebook users praised the fact that Jacky expressed her 62-year-old body proudly and freely with the message that age does not preclude beauty or sexiness. Jacky isn't the only model in her age range. 66-year-old Sarah … [Read more...] about There are no limits to beauty

Deana Romo and her camera

By Gabbie Corral |Staff Writer| One CSUSB photography student has been inspired by the messages ads and billboards send to society and is turning them into art. Deana Romo, a studio art major with a concentration in photography, has recently grabbed the attention of her professor, Thomas McGovern, with her most recent project. “My style is mostly revolved around people in the media and how people are so wrapped up in what beauty is. The models aren’t as perfect as we perceive them to be,” said Romo of her latest project. Romo has put together a collection of photographs in which she distorts the faces and bodies of beautiful models and celebrities in magazine ads by folding the … [Read more...] about Photography student gives beauty a new name
