Vox pop: How are CSUSB athletes staying in shape during the pandemic?

December 1, 2020 by Alyssa Beck Leave a Comment

CSUSB student athletes tell us whether or not the pandemic has made it difficult for them to stay in shape.  Photos of the student athletes were provided by the CSUSB Athletics department. Justine Ziranda - Cross Country; Senior, Art Education Major "Being on both the cross country and track and field team have been very different and difficult during this time. Having your teammates next to you every practice motivates you to do better, and we don’t have that right now. Running on our own can only do so much for us. We like competing and seeing our progress over time. Running on our own doesn’t give us the push that most of us need. But to stay positive, I’ve made one of my … [Read more...] about Vox pop: How are CSUSB athletes staying in shape during the pandemic?

May 27, 2020 by KeanuWallace7 Leave a Comment

Collegiate sports are on hold with no timetable on when they will resume. In sports, wins and losses are understood clearly. As of now, it seems like nothing is certain because of a global pandemic. The timetable for a return to normalcy is unknown. “It’s low key depressing, but I'm just continuing to work out and stay busy, I have weights and pull up bars here at home,” explains CSUSB star point guard, Jeremy Smith. Smith is a senior on the team who was awarded all California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) first team this year. CSUSB’s men's basketball team was set to make a deep run in the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament, only to find out that they … [Read more...] about Coyotes’ basketball season comes to unprecedented end

Basketball season in full effect

November 1, 2017 by Breeze Rivers Leave a Comment

The men's and women's basketball teams will open their 2017-18 season this month, and look to continue playing until the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) final matches that take place in early March. The men took on Upper Iowa to start their season on Nov. 3. They narrowly missed the win, falling 92-88 to the Peacocks. In their 2016-17 season, the men finished with an overall record of 11-14 and a CCAA record of 7-13, just shy of one win that would have landed them a spot in the CCAA Tournament. Last year, they ended in ninth place out of 13 teams in the conference. Intramurals at CSUSB

February 20, 2017 by Yera Nanan Leave a Comment

By Yera Nanan |Staff Writer| Intramurals is a program in which students, alumni and faculty that play in different sports across campus. They play to win a championship, as well as bragging rights among peers. When intramurals were first introduced to CSUSB, it was a rough experience for both the students and faculty because of how the system was established Teams would arrive for games without knowing their opponents. They were only given times and places. Nothing was recorded or archived like team stats or even player names. Matchups for were considerably unfair since they would randomly select team matches, not pair up teams by skill level or record.  With no schedule to … [Read more...] about Intramurals at CSUSB

Athletes offseason conditioning

February 6, 2017 by Kieron Coleman Leave a Comment

By Kieron Coleman |Staff Writer| When it comes to athletes at CSUSB, the off-season is a time where teams come together to work on strength and agility. It allows their muscles to be in the best possible condition for when the season comes around. Most college sports seasons are intense because of the large amount of games played over such a short period of time. Athletes have to do their workouts around their scheduled classes. Before the quarter starts, coaches send out times where they are not allowed to schedule any of their classes. Athletes work in a separate gym at the school, where it gives them the opportunity to work out with two highly knowledgeable coaches. "The … [Read more...] about Athletes offseason conditioning

Pack the house everyday

January 30, 2017 by Kieron Coleman Leave a Comment

By Kieron Coleman |Staff Writer| Supporting athletes on their game days is something that can be a decisive factor when it comes to victory or defeat. Student support so far has been very timid when it comes to game days, which perhaps affects in some of the athletes' games. Men’s and women’s soccer both advanced to the playoffs this past season after both performing better than expected. Women’s volleyball had another outstanding season, winning the conference and making the regional semifinals. As a whole, our athletes are trying to get the backing of the students to come down to watch the games and support the ‘Yotes. “Fans showing up to the game is always a bonus, … [Read more...] about Pack the house everyday
