By Francisco Casillas |Staff Writer| An unmanned cargo rocket heading to the International Space Station (ISS) exploded Tuesday night, only seconds after initial liftoff in Virginia in what NASA is calling a “catastrophic anomaly.” At 6:22 p.m., only six seconds after liftoff, a spark ignited in the lower section of the 14-story-high Antares rocket, resulting in an explosion and then “falling to earth,” according to NASA officials. Designed by Orbital Sciences Corporation, the cargo rocket carried 5,000 pounds of supplies, equipment, and science experiments to the ISS, according to a report released by NASA. By Melissa Benton |Staff Writer| The $3 million state-of-the-art Murillo Family Observatory is the only teaching facility of its kind in the Inland Empire. The observatory held its official ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 18. Its official open house was scheduled for Jan. 27, but was canceled due to high winds. Another open house is in the works and is looking to be scheduled at the end of March. The observatory was named for George and Pauline Murillo, their family and the San Manuel tribal members who made major contributions to finance it.
