An analysis of statehouse finance around the country shows that at least 22 states project shortfalls for the coming fiscal year, according to the Associated Press. The shortage recalls the depression era anxiety about reducing the tax revenue and deep cuts to education, social services and other government-funded programs. Justice Department seizes AP phone records
By Caleb Gasteiger | Staff Writers | In an aggressive move to stop additional leaks from occurring, the Obama administration secretly seized two months of phone records from the Associated Press (AP). The seizures were accomplished without the AP’s knowledge by bypassing the AP and going directly to the phone companies where they subpoenaed 20 phone lines including its offices, home phones and cellphones of journalists, according to The New York Times.
