Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Maui

March 18, 2012 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| Ready for a breath of fresh air? Well thanks to the downturn of the economy, flights to Maui are becoming more affordable for the average Joe. Although I have always advocated against trip planning, Maui may be a place you might need some guidance for. The sophisticated and exclusive island offers not only breathtaking landscapes but shopping and many outdoor activities as well. Although the island is not as large as Hawaii, getting from location to location can take up to 90 minutes by car. The last time I was there I couldn’t decide between a convertible car or a topless jeep. Jeep is definitely the way to go, you can drive on the … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Maui

Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost: San Fran

March 8, 2012 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| If you’re headed to San Francisco you don’t have to wear flowers in your hair, but I do recommend bringing a cardigan. Mark Twain was once quoted saying, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." I don’t think he was joking, but don’t let this discourage you from visiting. I call this my favorite southwest city, because it's the only place aside from Phoenix that you could actually fly to at the spur of the moment for less than $100 each way. If you’re traveling within California, Southwest Airlines is almost always the way to go. If you do head here for a 36 hour getaway, remember that the best times to visit is … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost: San Fran

Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Chicago

February 29, 2012 by Archived posts 952 Comments

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| Mobsters, trains, machine guns and godly skyscrapers. Most people associate dark things to Chicago but it is anything but. In fact, looking in you really notice its true beauty when you’re sailing on Lake Michigan and see the skyline. All of a sudden the city sounds become faint, as the sun sets in the East and the city lights up like a pile of diamonds glistening on the horizon. Although it  is a beautiful city it still has its flaws; I did not realize I had stepped into risky territory until it was too late. I found myself working for Tony Demasi, founder of Tsunami Capital and the Tsunami Foundation. Along with many driven men … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Chicago

Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost – Zurich

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| There are a few ways to experience the Swiss Alps: by car and train, hiking or plane. If you simply want to see and not exhaust your stay, well the Swiss train is the best way! Did I mention I am a huge Dr. Seuss fan? Anywho, as I said, the best way to arrive in Zurich, Switzerland is by train. They have invested ridiculous amounts of cash into their rail system and I must rave, their ride is the nicest I have ever been in. But there is a catch; do not get too comfortable. While busy enjoying the millions of things there were to look at, thirty minutes off the train I realized I left my Canon on the train. Talk about freaking … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost – Zurich

A building in Switzerland visited by R. Anthony Diaz

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| Ever wonder where all the men in cologne or watch advertisements come from? Well, I found them all. I know right? They were all tucked away in gorgeous Lugano, Switzerland, just walking around, trying on suits at Ermenegildo Zegna and of course discussing numbers and designing more watches. Lugano competes with Geneva for number two in the banking industry right after Zurich. It’s no wonder there are banks on every block, clocks on every corner and beautiful people everywhere. This city has a lake resort feel that incorporates century-old architecture with a Mediterranean flair. Aside from the fact that Lugano is known as a world … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost—Switzerland

Looking down a London street's nightlife

By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| Ever thought about getting lost? Well think again because once you step into the unfamiliar, you will have to think fast, and I am not talking about downtown San Bernardino. As college students many of us have traveled abroad or simply flown across the wondrous deep blue oceans to be fabulous, explore, sight-see and taste the wine. Well, that was me last week, I found myself lost. From one classmate to another I want to share my experience, offer some advice and air the dirty laundry. For most international flights it is more than likely you will be flying out of LAX unless you have a connecting flight. I must say that if you are traveling with … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter
