Choose Soy over Animal Products

January 24, 2014 by Archived posts 12 Comments

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Not only is soy lower in fat but it also contains less cholesterol than animal based products, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). This is why people should choose to consume soy products instead of animal products. Soy is rising in popularity because it has been found to not only be a healthier option but it also provides consumers with a higher portion of their daily vitamins. Thevegetariansite.com agrees that the expansion of products that are free of animal based ingredients have grown to the point where there is a substitute for almost all animal products. Soy is considered to be not only the richest but the … [Read more...] about Choose Soy over Animal Products

Fat, Brown and Vegan: An introduction

January 30, 2013 by Archived posts 8 Comments

By Richard Bowie |Executive Editor| When you think of a vegan or vegetarian, what image pops up? A frail, malnourished hippie? Someone who eats dandelions and yeast? Well how about a virile young man of color who has a zest for life, and a curvaceous bod that just won’t quit? Consider this an introduction to “Fat, Brown and Vegan.” I have a lot of ideas about what to write because … [Read more...] about Fat, Brown and Vegan: An introduction

Hooray. Burger King recently vowed that all their pork and eggs will come from cage-free animals by 2017, in what is seen as a huge step toward answering a growing public cry for more humane meat. This may seem great on the surface to some, but a little research and some thoughtful introspection on personal ethics raises a red … [Read more...] about ‘Cage-free’ not cutting it, ethical eaters need to change

Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party

May 6, 2012 by Archived posts

By Aunjolay Lambert |Staff Writer| I feel some people don’t understand what you can gain by being in a sorority or fraternity. I think that sometimes TV and movies can alter a person’s view of reality and I think in this case Greek organizations get the brunt of that. For example movies like “Old School” and “Animal House” can suggest that fraternities and sororities are around just to have a good time. “Some of the negative things I’ve heard are that the girls are easy and the guys just like to drink and party,” said Ashlynne Macan, a member of a co-ed fraternity at CSUSB. Last summer I went on vacation to Virginia and my cousin, who is in a sorority, showed me around her campus … [Read more...] about Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party
