By Kaila Morales | Staff Writer | The 2015-2016 basketball season came to an end this weekend for the lady Coyotes who were defeated 77-71 by Cal State Dominguez Hills. Although, this was the second straight year that the Women’s basketball team had reached the CCAA semifinals, it was a first for new head coach Sue Crebbin. Senior Alexcia Mack finished her Coyote basketball career at the top, earning three All-CCAA honors and became the first in eight years to earn consecutive first-team honors. She established a career free throw percentage record of .791, with a total of 1,255 points, 399 field goals, 341 free throws,115 three-pointers. On Friday, Feb. 21, the Coyotes hosted the Seawolves in the Cossoullis Arena with a welcoming crowd on Military Appreciation night. Military Appreciation night is an event that CSUSB holds for all of the active and retired military veterans to show them that we appreciate their service to our country. The Coyotes wanted to focus and earn the victory for their teammates and the military veterans. By Kirolles Guirguis |Staff Writer| The Coyotes women's basketball team suffered a loss in overtime against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Saturday night. The game came down to the last minute as the Broncos squeezed out a 76-73 victory. The Coyotes scored consistently and played aggressively throughout the entire game, which was more prevalent in the fourth quarter. With five seconds left on the clock, sophomore Alexcia Mack made a deep three-pointer from the top of the key to take the game into overtime. The Coyotes were able to close the gap to 73-74, but were unable to take the lead. The Coyotes played the Gators of CSU San Francisco on Jan. 17 and the Seawolves of CSU Sonoma on Jan. 18 as part of their two game road trip. Friday night, the Coyotes visited “The Swapp” as they played their first game in San Francisco against the Gators. The Coyotes played a tough and physical game, however the outcome was not in their favor as they lost 49-58. Sophomore guard Alexcia Mack’s last second shot lifted the Coyotes to a 47-46 victory over the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay on Friday, Jan. 10. “At the moment I didn’t really see it as a game winning shot. It was a great win for us and a real turning point,” said Mack. In the first half, the Coyotes were in a battle starting off sluggish but quickly changed their gameplay throughout the first half. Women’s Basketball ready for new season
By Mike Sessions |Staff Writer| After last year’s losing season of 13-14, CSUSB Women’s Basketball team was hopeful of turning things around during their exhibition match against NCAA Division I’s Loyola Marymount University, but fell 51-82. The Lions played fairly decent at home during the 2012-13 season, winning nine of their 14 games at Gersten Pavilion. Pulling away with a 31-point win has to be a great sign of another great year in front of their home crowd. Lack of execution: Yote’s unable to close games
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| The Women’s basketball team fell behind when they lost both Friday and Saturday night’s games on Jan. 18 and 19. “This weekend we didn’t come out and work hard and strong from the beginning, if we focus and work continually throughout the game, we will have better results,” said senior guard Jaslyn Cosey. With two games in the hole the Yote’s now have a record of 6-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA league. Neither one of the games played were completely dominated by the Coyote competition. Women’s basketball execution brings home win
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| The Coyote Women's Basketball team dominated on the court this past Friday night, January 11, against CSU Stanislaus. With a 66-42 victory under their belt, the team took a heavy blow the following night when they lost Saturday to CSU Chico with a score of 62-56. "We played a complete game against Stanislaus, but needed to shoot the basketball better against Chico. Our offensive execution in the last five minutes of the Chico game was not good," said Head Coach Kevin Becker.
