By Marvin Garcia |Staff Writer| It’s game on! Set your hi-def television, get your best headset, and get the junk food ready, because this year the sickest, most anticipated video games will conquer your living room for months to come. “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (MGS5),” “Batman: Arkham Knight,” “Uncharted 4,” “Halo 5: Guardians,” and “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” are the top-of-the-chart releases bringing an uncanny, hardcore digital art package set to blow the minds of audiences. Of the above listed games, “MGS5” has been the only one that has already given a taste of what is to come in the prologue, “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.” While the prologue can be … [Read more...] about Great Games are Coming

The Grand Budapest Hotel — Film Review
By Emmanuel Gutierrez |Features Editor| "The Grand Budapest Hotel" is a whimsically snide, nostalgic, and typical Wes Anderson affair—and that’s awesome—loaded with a crap ton of cameos and quirkiness galore. The film is an oddball collection of stories within a story; rather, a novel about the author interviewing the owner of a hotel, with flashbacks set some time between both World Wars composing the majority of the film. Don’t let that deter you from experiencing a charming, intelligent piece of art that seems all too rare. Gustave, the legendary, impressionable concierge played by Ralph Fiennes, has the habit of sleeping with many, if not all his female clients—feeble, … [Read more...] about The Grand Budapest Hotel — Film Review
Cage the Elephant performs secret show
By Emmanuel Gutierrez |Asst. Features Editor| Cage the Elephant performed a secret show in Santa Barbara for “Live from the Artists Den”, a PBS sponsored television series, on Oct. 15. Fifteen minutes late to the show, in what would become a six hour round trip, I feared being denied entrance as a result of my tardiness. Fortunately, that was not the case. An intricate, glass blown ornament hung from the ceiling in twisted, conical rainbows. The audience was composed of an abundance of bearded spectators reminiscent of Zach Galifianakis and gray-ponytailed hippies dancing and clapping in the quaking, harmonious resonances. A Martha Stewart look-a-like in a crocheted ascot … [Read more...] about Cage the Elephant performs secret show
Mojalet Dance Company bodies do the talking
By Emmanuel Gutierrez |Asst. Features Editor| The Mojalet Dance Company expressed heartfelt emotion through movement in conjunction with Rhythm Talk Music’s heart-pounding jam sessions on Oct. 8. The percussion trio and their instruments were bathed in a surreal light fusion of orange and yellow, much like that of an oversaturated sunset. A male and female dancer swayed on stage, reminiscent of the ancient martial art of the praying mantis. “It was an interplay between dance and music. It was lovely,” said student Nicole Lopez. The dancers spouted grand epics with wordless dialogue; the snare and bass drums composed the backdrops to their graceful fables. Their twisting, … [Read more...] about Mojalet Dance Company bodies do the talking
Lupe Fiasco visits CSUSB
By Manal Museitef |Managing Editor| Lupe Fiasco went center stage on Saturday night, May 31 in the Coussoulis Arena at CSUSB promoting his upcoming album Tetsuo and Youth. Over 300 students and fans alike showed up to support the conscious hip hop artist, even though he momentarily forgot where he was. Over the course of the show, Lupe had fans blushing when he repeatedly referred to them as a UC instead of a Cal State. It was awkward and embarrassing to say the least, for both parties. Other than that Lupe put on a great hour, performing classics from The Cool and even performed his newest single, "Mission." Check out some photos from the night: … [Read more...] about Lupe Fiasco visits CSUSB

By Dawnika Lopez |Staff Writer| Whether you are child, or an busy college student you are never too old to dress up. CSUSB students give their fun insights about costumes for this Halloween. “I’m going to be Tarzan this Halloween. The most annoying costume to me would be Scream. When I was younger I’ll see so many Scream costumes, but I think the fox costume will be overdone. I can’t lie, I’m looking forward to those inappropriate adult costumes and the ladies taking it up a notch, "said junior Filiberto Quintero Junior Stephanie Woodward said, “Personally, I think the horrifying costumes annoy me, but I’m can’t wait to see the hilarious costumes. This Halloween I am going to be … [Read more...] about Coyote Watch: Halloween costumes
