The Academic Fair: A One Stop Shop

June 4, 2017 by Samantha Flores 131 Comments

By Samantha Flores |Staff Writer| It is important to know where to go when you need advice for example, how to graduate on time, where to go to pay for your grad check, and how to find internships. "There are students that don't know about us and that we are here for them," said Peer Advisor Luis Jimenez. The Academic Fair featuring advising, financial, and academic services answered any questions students had on May 3 and 4. "Instead of students going from departments, buildings, and programs, they get to come here for a one-stop shop," said Star Kafovalu Advisor and the host of the Academic Fair. Star Kafovalu and Erika Hernandez, advisors, hosted this event in regards to … [Read more...] about The Academic Fair: A One Stop Shop

By Seungkyung Baek  |Staff Writer| With papers coming closer to due dates, the writing center is at its peak with appointments. It helps students by reviewing their paper and giving proper feedback through one on one tutoring system. "The writing center is supporting student's academic service. It can be both of academic course and non-academic such as resume, scholarship applications, and personal writing," said Assistant Director Nathan Jones. By Stephanie Para |Staff Writer| Two CSUSB students who were struggling academically at the university last quarter have turned their educational careers around, earning $500 in scholarship money. Sociology major Asia Wilson, and liberal studies major Sandra Saldivar, were awarded the Dianna Pelletier Scholarship last Winter quarter, a financial award that is given as an incentive for students on academic probation. Come to college with a plan

January 24, 2014 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Marie Fernandes | Staff Writer|   Students entering college as an undeclared major should have a plan. They can take general education classes until they decide on their major of choice. General education classes are one way to explore options in terms of possible majors, especially if a student has trouble deciding. Electives are a way to explore a variety of majors while still earning some units. “I think students should take their G.E.’s first so that they can get a feel of what major would be the best fit for them,” said student Joe Castro. Undergraduates should have a plan or at least an outline of what they would like to major in, so that they can maximize their … [Read more...] about Come to college with a plan
