The reason the counties are in a rush is because they’re "paranoid" about how to govern pot, according to sacbee.com. “If you have a medical card for health purposes I don’t see why the state would come in and regulate or ban your usage,” said CSUSB criminal justice major Astrid Grandls. Proposal pushes to lower drinking age
By Marco Montoya |Staff Writer| The age for legal alcohol consumption in California might be lowered to 18 due to a new proposed ballot initiative. For the bill to be a part of the November 2016 ballot, the proponent Terrance Lynn must acquire 365,880 signatures by April 26, 2016, according to KTLA 5. Lynn argued that 18-year-olds have all the responsibilities and entitlements of adults so they should also be allowed to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. He also estimates that it could bring millions of dollars in taxes every year, according to KSBW. Prop 30 extension pushed for by educators
By Francisco Villegas |Staff Writer| Education officials want to extend Proposition 30. California Gov. Jerry Brown does not. If passed, Prop 30 would extend the current, voter-approved income tax increase on the wealthiest California residents. Sales and Income Tax Increase Initiative (Prop 30) would tax those who earn more than $250,000 a year. If this proposition is extended the increase in sales tax by 25 percent would continue. Educators support this proposition and want to collect signatures to help Prop 30 get on the November 2016 ballot.
