“Eh, Sexy Lady, Op op op oppan Gangnam Style.” The year 2012 is over, but why is “Gangnam Style” still in my head along with other repetitious songs. Here is a list of songs that we would all hope would stay in 2012.

“Gangnam Style,” is a catchy, upbeat, dance-filled song that can have any listener moving. PSY, became very popular in a few months since its release in July.

So what is “Gangnam Style?” It could be anything, but an online user states, “It is the obsession of pretending to have it all and the subtext of having ‘it’ means Western Culture.” With a record breaking one billion views “Gangnam Style” continues to play on YouTube channels everywhere.

No matter what the meaning, this Korean pop song is quite catchy and in a different language. With so many radio stations playing “Gangnam Style” just about every hour, by the end of 2012 the song went out of style.

“Call Me Maybe,” a song by Carly Rae Jepsen, has sold 5.5 million downloads since its release in September, according Billboard.com. Even President Obama could be seen singing to Jepsen’s hit single.“ It looks like a cute pop song,” Obama stated according to Politico.com.

“Call Me Maybe,” has a positive pop feel with a very catchy hook, but was totally overplayed. Every station was playing this song at one point. “Hey I just met you and this is crazy,” but it’s 2013, so later baby.

“What Makes You Beautiful,” a song by the British boy band One Direction, has grabbed the hearts of many young women. Surprisingly these teen heartthrobs did not even know each other until fate brought them together on the hit show “X-Factor.”

The song went double platinum after selling 2,060,303 units in a few months, according to One Direction’s music site.

The song made Billboard Top 100 list even with its agonizing “Na Na Na” hook which is sung over 70 times. It seems that boy bands may be coming back, but let’s hope this band stays the other direction.

“Somebody That I Used To Know,” is a very depressing song that can make anyone recollect on past acquaintances. Gotye’s single was released in July of 2012 and it quickly rose to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 list with sales reaching over 4.5 million, according to Forbes.

The song’s lyrics provide perfect companionship with anyone going through a tough breakup. The song should be dubbed the “Most Overplayed Song” on the radio, “Somebody that I Used to Know,” will be that one song that people wish they didn’t know in 2013.

“Boyfriend,” is an upbeat pop song by Justin Bieber. According to Billboard Biz, the song debuted in April and is the fourth-best song in digital sales at 521,000. “Boyfriend” has made history by being played over 3,963 times in its first week.

The song describes what kind of boyfriend [Bieber] would be and claims to “Never let you go,” but I hope radio stations will let this overplayed track go.
With 2012 officially over let’s hope that we don’t have to hear these songs again until NOW 45.
