A local fashion designer has started his own brand of ordinary clothing for the anything but ordinary fashion enthusiast.
Ordnajela is a new garage-made fashion brand based in Apple Valley, Calif.
Alejandro Galvan is the designer responsible for this new style hitting the Inland Empire.
Galvan has always had an interest in fashion and decided to take his passion to the next level when he chose to start his journey at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandishing (FIDM) back in 2007.
While in school, Galvan perfected many skills that would help him eventually create his own high-end fashion line.
After two years of taking classes at FIDM, Galvan graduated in 2009 with his associates degree in fashion design and was ready to begin his next venture.
In 2010, Galvan decided to move to Mexico to study at a major fashion institute, Centro de Diseno de Modas, for the next two years and continued to learn and excel in his studies.
Galvan then returned back to U.S. soil and landed a job with Free People, an American bohemian retail company that sells women’s clothes.
There, Galvan worked on creating many designs and one of his more popular designs, called Leaves Fall Crop, was chosen for mass production and is now being sold under the Free People label.
Galvan stayed with Free People for an eye-opening year and decided that he wanted to focus on starting his own clothing line, Ordnajela.
Ordnajela includes clothing for men and women that displays a new side of style to many fashion enthusiasts.
On his website, Galvan breaks down his line into different parts called capsules, which include Electric Peace,
Recycled Series and Modern Classics.
This helps to explain the inspiration and ideas that have led to his clothing pieces.
The Electric Peace capsule has a retro element from music played in the 50s, 60s and 70s, which is
something that strongly influenced ideas in Galvan’s life.
Many designers in the fashion industry waste endless amounts of fabrics and clothing everyday, which is slowly killing our ecosystem.
Ordnajela wants to make a difference, which is why Galvan created the Recycled Series, which includes pieces made from secondhand clothing and scraps while still being different and edgy.
Galvan also wants to create the fashion of the future and be ahead of the game with his Modern Classics capsule, summed up as monochromatic, futuristic, minimalistic and new neutrals.
“Many of his pieces are very different, but I would totally wear them and I love what the Recycled Series capsule stands for,” said student Dominique Morris.
Galvan has been hard at work with his fashion line but in his downtime he recently just finished an internship with Band of Outsiders.
Band of Outsiders is a Los Angeles-based clothing label known for its modern and rebellious take on American style.
Galvan successfully completed the internship and now has a new surge of inspiration to keep working on his collection and even managed to pick up some new fabrics from them to inspire future pieces for Ordnajela.
“In the near future, I see Ordnajela as a source and platform for emerging creative talents,” said Galvan.
The next step for the brand is trying to get more publicity for his designs at local farmer’s markets and flea markets and show what he has to offer as a designer.
Ordnajela is currently available for purchase on Etsy and prices range from $30-$100. For more information, please visit www.ordnajela.com.
