Coyotes show off their athletic skills and competitiveness competing in this quarter’s intramural volleyball events who have a new champion.

The team Kiss my Ace, took the A league finals against team Take Notes this past Tuesday May 28, with a score of 15-11 the first game, 9-15 in the second and 25-20 in the third, winning best two out of three.

Krystal Nunez, Kasi Kauvaka, Jonny Tuitavke, Kasandra Ramos, Jasmin Keller, and Sal Aguilar, played on team Kiss my Ace.

In addition, players of team Take Notes include Angel Lizarde and Breanna Marrefo, although they did not win the championship they were able to give Kiss my Ace a run for their money.

Along with winning the A league playoffs, Kiss my Ace went through the intramural season going undefeated with a record of 6-0.

“I signed up because I love playing volleyball and my friend Krystal saw that I was okay at volleyball and she asked me to join her team,” said player Aguilar.

Not every intramural player is the best volleyball player, but they make sure they put their best effort forward and that’s all that counts.

“I was a loner, I would always hang out with two of my friends and now that I play volleyball. I have more friends to hang out with,” said Aguilar.

Intramural sports feeds into the competitive nature of students and helps them make new friends and stay active while having fun.

Along with making new friends, students are able to keep up with their studies and develop better time management skills.

“If you really take it seriously it helps because your like okay I really need to get this done before I go and play,” said Aguilar.

Students are allowed to compose their own team as long as they have a minimum requirement of two players and a maximum of six players on the court at all times.

Students are able to sign up online through the CSUSB recreational sports website under the intramural tab.

The teams are separated by experience and competitiveness. The A league, being for the more experienced and competitive player, and the B league being for students that just want to have fun and play.

Intramural volleyball is offered every quarter and starts the third week of classes and ends the tenth week before finals.

This gives the students seven weeks to compete for the playoffs.

Each team will play a total of six games and must win at least three games to make it to the playoffs and compete for the championship.

Whichever team wins the championship will earn the very deserved intramural sports T-shirt, plus bragging rights for the quarter.

Intramural players are wrapping up the quarter with new friends and more experience in volleyball.
