It’s the season for yummy holiday treats to start making their way into everyone’s kitchen. Contrary to popular belief, there are healthy desserts you can indulge in without gaining that holiday weight. So put down those pumpkin cheesecakes and throw away the peppermint barks, because there is a new dessert in town.
A recipe that many people should know about is dark chocolate peanut butter-filled bananas. This easy, convenient recipe only involves three items. You’ll just need to get bananas and cut them in spheres. After this is done, get parchment paper over a pan and put each banana sphere on them.
You’ll need to spread a generous helping of peanut butter on each banana slice, then top it off with another banana sphere to make it like a sandwhich.
While doing this, take dark chocolate chips and put them in a bowl and microwave them until they have melted.
After the dark chocolate has melted, dip each banana sandwich in the bowl until each one is fully coated. Freeze the chocolate-covered bananas for about 20 minutes, and then dig in! A low calorie treat awaits without you feeling the guilt afterwards.
A new favorite of mine that does fine on its own yet won’t break the bank is Rx Bars from Sprouts or Trader Joes. These protein bars have flavors such as pumpkin spice, salted chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, and coconut chocolate chip. They are high in fiber, protein, potassium, and taste just like a candy bar.
Another sweet little thing you can get from Sprouts is dark chocolate-covered rice cakes. You put those bad boys in the fridge for 30 minutes, then cover one side with Buff Bake almond butter, I use the cookie dough flavor, and boom! You have a high protein, low calorie, sweet treat.
Let me introduce the ice cream that’ll make you question the accuracy of the nutrition
facts on the label. Enlightened Ice Cream can be purchased at Sprouts. It contains about 400 calories for the entire carton. Yes, you read that right. You can kill that whole carton while binging on Lifetime movies and not feel like a whale afterwards.
Greek yogurt is also very high in protein and low in sugar and carbohydrates if you buy the plain flavor. To make it a bit more tasty, you can add a teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, and strawberries. Mix the ingredients together before adding the strawberries. Let the the mix sit in the fridge for 10 minutes if you want a creamier consistency.
Now, if you are a lemon fiend, please hold on to your taste-buds. You’ll need one cup of lemon Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, one tablespoon of lemon juice, and blueberries, if you’d like. Mix all these ingredients together and place them in a cupcake sheet. Let the mix freeze for four hours and have made guilt-free lemon bars with a twist.
Having a sweet tooth is nothing to be ashamed of, and now you’ll have a few tricks up your sleeve that will have your friends wondering how you managed to stay in shape this winter.
