CSUSB has a wide variety of students, that comes with an incredible variety of style.
To prove this statement, I took to the campus sidewalks in an attempt to find someone who I thought had exceptional taste in fashion.
It took a lot of searching to find someone who really looked like they put effort into their appearance, since most of us are usually too lazy to dress for a full school day.
I know I’m guilty of it.
I suddenly saw a man out of the corner of my eye, a student named Joel Miller, who looked like he had a keen sense of fashion and was lucky enough to ask him a few questions regarding his style that he was delighted to answer.
Miller was wearing a light blue button down shirt with white/tan pants and looked very natty.
His outfit made him look approachable and easy to talk to, and yes, I got all of that by looking at an outfit.
After a few quick words with Miller before he rushed off to class, I learned that he just transferred to CSUSB last quarter.
He is a philosophy major and hopes to pursue a career as a lawyer.
I later asked him to model a few of his favorite outfits and did a quick Q&A.
CC (Coyote Chronicle):What is your inspiration when it comes to fashion?
JM (Joel Miller): I really don’t have any major inspirations. I just sort of dress with the thought of looking nice for myself and so that I make a good impression with others.
CC: Who are your fashion icons?
JM: There’s a few, but if I had to narrow it down to two, I would have to say Bradley Cooper and David Beckham. They always look nice, but never too overdone.
CC: How would you describe your style?
JM: After a quick Google search, an Esquire article says that I fall somewhere between ‘The Rake’ and ‘The Roller’, I guess that means I like white jeans, button down shirts, and the French Riviera, whatever that means.
CC: Where do you shop?
JM: My girlfriend shops for me, so you would have to ask her. Just kidding. I mostly shop at American Apparel, Hollister, Pac Sun, JC Penny, and H&M. I also like to go thrift shopping, I find really cool stuff at Goodwill sometimes.
CC: Do you have any advice or tips for students regarding fashion?
JM: Looking you best is important. I know getting up for school is a drag, but you should always want to look nice. Also, if you’re looking for good shoes, go to Goodwill. I got a pair of Sperry’s for like $10.
CC: What is your shopping budget?
JM: I don’t really splurge on clothes very often, so when I do buy clothes, I’m wiling to spend a couple hundred dollars. It’s more about quality than quantity. I never spend too much on the basics though.
