CSUSB celebrates environmental health with an annual EcoFest on Oct. 18, proving that respecting the earth can be fun. This event was full of positive vibes, making new friends, new memories, and protecting our beautiful planet.

According to event coordinator Tess Webster-Henry, EcoFest gives people a better understanding of impacts on our environment, the importance of sustainability.

EcoFest showcased solutions to environmental issues that confront our society. The festival is pushed to promote the idea, “one person can make a difference.” Protecting the environment and Earth sustainability is important to keep the world alive and be mindful what we, as people do.

“CSUSB is committed in our day to day operations to minimizing waste and pollution, reducing reliance on nonrenewable energy sources, and maintaining a safe and healthful environment for our students, employees, and neighbors,” according to ecofest.csusb.edu.

CSUSB student Martiza Ramirez enjoyed the fest, “The best part was the variety of creative booths and the best part was the funnel cake.”
Ecofest had many activities and performances including  carnival games, vendors, live bands, a labyrinth, including a fashion show.
There was so much to do from getting henna tattoos, going shopping for vintage clothing, and creating Mandala art, which helps you connect with your inner being.
You can also create a customize Ecofest graphic T-shirt or a tote bag.
There were booths called Creation Stations where you can create friendship bracelets and create new memories with friends and family.
Ecofest also presented booths giving information about green energy, preserving wildlife, reducing human footprint, and understanding recycling plastic.
The festival kept it as green as possible. They went as far as to have a Solar Powered Main Stage which was used for the live performers that included Climbing PoeTree, Drift Iron, Bollywood FLO, Vidalta, Danzas de Aztlan, Slaves Against the Machine, and our very own Underground music society.
“My friends brought me to the Ecofest and convinced me it’ll be fun. The best part of the fest was making new friends, the positive environment and the good vibes,” said Tony Contreras, student from Moreno Valley.
At 5:30 p.m. they had a screening of the film “The Lorax,” which has been widely recognized as Dr. Seuss’ take on environmentalism and how humans are destroying nature.Toyota was also there to display their energy-efficient vehicles.
Ecofest was an event full of happiness and memories, everything from the people to the music created a great positive atmosphere.
“It was a very pleasant atmosphere and everyone was welcoming,” said student Jessica Botello.

EcoFest was a healthy way to get more involved on campus to and learn about the possible ways to save the earth. If you missed out on this opportunity to thank mother earth for its natural resources be sure to attend next year.1379710_604214992958772_423185299_n
