CSUSB SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) will transition its University Honors Program into a full-fledged Honors College, effective fall 2025, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs A. Rafik Mohamed announced in a letter to the campus community.
The transition follows a year-long self-study and external review of the Honors Program conducted by the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). Recommendations from this review guided the restructuring and refocusing of the program’s strategic goals, culminating in the decision to establish an honors college.
“This transformation will enhance the university’s ability to attract and support a diverse and talented student body and strengthen connections with high schools and community colleges, including honors-to-honors pipelines,” Mohamed stated in his letter.
The CSUSB Honors College will build upon the existing Honors Program infrastructure, offering enhanced academic and co-curricular experiences. University officials believe the new college will position CSUSB as a destination for high-achieving students. The move is described as resource-neutral, utilizing existing infrastructure and adhering to honors college best practices.
Faculty and staff currently associated with the University Honors Program will continue their roles within the Honors College, reporting to Dr. Caroline Vickers, Dean of Graduate Studies, and remaining under Vice Provost Kelly Campbell’s portfolio.
Mohamed emphasized the university’s excitement about this new chapter and promised to share more details in the coming months. He also thanked the campus community for their continued support in expanding opportunities for students and the broader CSUSB community.
