California State University, San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus (PDC) and College of the Desert (COD) buzzed with activity on Thursday, April 25th, as students and faculty gathered for the 2nd annual PDC Communication Day. The event, designed to bridge the gap between current students and alumni, offered a dynamic lineup of speakers and interactive sessions.
A highlight of the day was the return of over a dozen PDC Communication alumni. These industry veterans, representing diverse communication sectors, shared their career journeys, industry trends, and the importance of building professional networks. Students actively engaged with alumni during a panel discussion, gaining invaluable insights into the realities of working in communication.
Four-time Emmy Award-winning sound production expert Zane Bruce captivated the audience with a luncheon presentation on the “Art of Foley.” Bruce’s demonstration of creating film sounds through everyday objects showcased the creativity and precision required to breathe life into movie scenes through sound design.
“Coachella Valley communication students gain a first-rate education here at PDC,” said Matthew Poole, Chair of the Communication and Media Department at PDC. He emphasized the collaborative spirit between PDC and COD, fostering a close-knit campus community.
PDC Communication Day provided a unique platform for students to learn from seasoned professionals, gain practical knowledge, and connect with potential mentors and collaborators. Attendees expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with successful alumni and glean valuable industry insights. “Hearing from accomplished alumni was truly inspiring,” remarked a student. “Their advice and encouragement have fueled my confidence to pursue my own career goals.”
As communication technologies continue to reshape our world, events like PDC Communication Day play a vital role in preparing students for the ever-evolving communication landscape. By fostering a space for learning, networking, and mentorship, PDC empowers the next generation of communication leaders and ensures the continued success of its graduates in this dynamic and competitive field.
The 2024 PDC Communication Day marked a resounding success, solidifying the commitment of PDC and COD to provide students with a world-class education and equip them with the tools they need to flourish in the ever-changing world of communication.
