There will be a cosmic climbing night extravaganza at CSUSB Recreation & Wellness (SRWC/Rec Center) to ease the heavy pressures of school on June 3.
This upcoming event is free for all students at CSUSB and there is no prior experience needed for anyone trying to climb.
There will be several climbing supervisors at the climbing wall to show proper technique to those who have never climbed before.
All that is going to be required by CSUSB faculty and students is to come out and have a good time at the event with your fellow Coyotes.
The time for the event is schedule to start at 10:30 p.m. and will be wrapping up all activities at 2:30 a.m.
The event itself will be free for all students and SRWC members, but there will be a $10 fee for guests and a one guest per student limit.
All faculty and students who choose to attend the event must be register by Wednesday, June 1 at the SRWC.
If any CSUSB faculty or students have any questions regarding the event, they can visit the SRWC website or travel down to the Rec Center for more information.
This will be the third time the SRWC has offered this special climbing event.
Mark Oswood, the Outdoor Programs Coordinator at CSUSB, gave some insight into the event.
“It has been successful the last couple of years and people get to do something different that they don’t see every day at the wall,” said Oswood.
“We’ve slowly been using all these different backlights, DJ lights, florescence tape and glow paint in the holes of the wall,” continued Oswood.
The Rec Center will be hosting several other activities at the event for everyone to get involved.
One of the activities that will be taking place during the event is a costume contest.
“We have a dress code. Something appropriate and also the people in costumes will climb, so bring a costume that is safe to climb in and the winner of the contest will win a prize from the SWRC,” said Oswood.
Another reason to attend the event is all the free food the Rec Center will be providing for those in attendance.
The next activity at the event is the top rope competition for the climbers who have some sort of experience.
It is going to be a way to show off our student’s strength, athleticism and determination in the top rope competition.
The winner of the top rope competition will receive a high end rock climbing prize from SWRC.
The night climb will be hosting several different games for everyone to be involved to make it entertaining.
“[There will be] a projector based interactive game. It projects onto the wall and you can move around these dots and you climb and hit them and has several different ways to rack up points,” said Oswood.
CSUSB faculty and student are in for a real treat with our cosmic climbing.
