CSUSB Coyotes men’s baseball defeated the Chico State Wildcats during the first game of their double header on Friday with a final score of 4-0 at Fiscalini Field.
Unfortunately for the Coyotes, Friday’s 2.p.m. was their only victory against the Wildcats of their four game series.
The first game of the series started slow. The highlight for the Coyotes involved catcher Nick Oddo who
hit his third home run of the season.
Oddo leads the Coyotes in home runs this season. Multiple errors and unearned runs led to the Coyotes falling short with a 6-1 loss in the first game.
After the Coyotes first lose, they returned to face the Wildcats for game two at 2 p.m. The Coyotes lose the first double header 4-3. Coyotes fell behind 4-0 at the top of the eighth inning.
Just when the Coyotes seemed defeated, they began to comeback scoring three runs in the eighth inning.
With wild pitches running rampant, Coyote William Ouellette was immediately walked to first base at the bottom of the eighth. With Oddo at bat, Ouellette took advantage of the inaccurate pitches from the Wildcats and advanced to second base.
The momentum shifted in the Coyotes’ favor when Oddo hit a single to right field advancing Ouellette to third, however, only scored three runs fell to the Wildcats once again.
Saturday nights double header followed and resulted in a 4-0 victory for the Wildcats, despite their two previous losses to the Wildcats, the Coyotes were able to band together and take home a victory.
Coyotes Kevin Meriwether, Nolan Almodovar, and Ouellette had a phenomenal first inning scoring three runs and providing a comfortable cushion to start the game.
Aaron Owen would earn an RBI with Ouellette scoring the fourth and final run for the Coyotes at the bottom of the third. The pace of the game slowed, the Wildcats never scored, and the Coyotes took home the win.
In the fourth and final match up of the series, the Coyotes suffered a 11-4 defeat in the final game of the series.
The Coyotes continue to struggle with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season and their record is 12 wins and 30 losses.
The Coyotes are scheduled to take on the UC San Diego Tritons in a three game series with their final two home games on May 1 and 2 at Fiscalini Field. They will wrap up a difficult season with their final game on Triton territory scheduled for May 3 at 11 a.m. in La Jolla, CA.
