By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| President Donald Trump and the Office of the White House announced that they will be withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement on June 1. The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that deals with greenhouse gas emission reductions, adaptation and finance towards climate healthy changes starting in the year 2020. The decision to withdraw from the agreement was largely due to the notion that the carbon reduction targets set by the previous administration were severely hurting the economic climate and job forecasts. Trump said the deal placed "draconian" financial burdens … [Read more...] about Trump Pulls U.S. out of Paris Agreement

The Small Business Experience
By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| Small businesses have been growing at an accelerated rate in recent times, but that isn't to say that they do not encounter hardships. The issues that small businesses face have been a focus among local businesses. Problems and obstacles plague the typical upstart businesses, but the good ones find ways to jump through these hoops. Some of these problems include cash flow issues, retaining profitable customers, maintaining the balance of quality and cost growth, and fatigue. Rick Anaya is the owner of Pie Hole, a Los Angeles-based pie shop. He says that for them, creating a price point that is both comfortable for them and customers tends to be an … [Read more...] about The Small Business Experience

Drug Use in the Inland Empire
By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| The use of illegal substances and drugs in the nation has risen as a whole over the past few years, and the Inland Empire has seen its fair share of the rise in these rates as well. Street drugs, such as marijuana, have seen their levels of use rise steadily, while the takeoff of pharmaceutical drugs has sparked a new epidemic in the southern California region. These pharmaceutical drugs often take the form of painkillers and relaxants, such as Xanax and Valium. Opioids have also caused civilians to struggle with addiction in the form of illegally distributed fentanyl, a potent, yet volatile drug. And then there is the party scene and concert … [Read more...] about Drug Use in the Inland Empire
To Sleep, or Not To Sleep
By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| A bill that would make California middle schools and high schools start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. is making it's way through the legislature, gathering support from physicians yet opposition from California school boards. California Senate Bill 328 was approved by the Senate Education Committee April 19, 2017, but has not been officially passed. The bill entails a plan put forth by state Sen. Anthony Portantino to push back the class start times at all California middle and high schools to at least 8:30 a.m. The opponents of the bill are the California Teachers Association, which is the state's largest professional employee union, and the California … [Read more...] about To Sleep, or Not To Sleep
United Airlines takes a beating
By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| United Airlines has taken a large amount of criticism and backlash in the las few weeks since a passenger was forcibly removed from United Airlines flight 3411 due to an overbooking situation. Three United Airlines employees dragged Dr. David Dao off his flight after refusing to give up his seat on the overbooked flight, which needed extra seats for employees who were making their way to another airport in Louisville, on April 11. Dao suffered a broken nose, two broken front teeth, and a bloodied mouth in the incident, prompting fellow passengers to record videos of the event and publish it throughout the internet. The CEO of United Airlines, Oscar … [Read more...] about United Airlines takes a beating
Living in San Bernardino
By Shamce Ahmad |Staff Writer| The perspective of the city changes often, but it seems that those who live within its confines have the best view of it all. “San Bernardino has been my home all of my life, and I’ve grown to love this city,” said San Bernardino Valley College student, Kyle Gonzalez. Gonzalez was born and raised in the eastern side of San Bernardino and has not considered living anywhere else. He added that “there are always things to do at night out in downtown,” which seems to be a popular spot among locals. When local native Raymond Zikram was asked his opinion on the city of San Bernardino, he defended his longtime home from the naysayers. “San Bernardino … [Read more...] about Living in San Bernardino
