By Megan Vina |Contributing Writer| Donald Yee, agent for New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, along with former Super Bowl champion wide receiver Ed McCaffrey and others have formed Pacific Pro Football, a first of its kind league for players directly from high school. For the first time, emerging football players will have a choice in determining their best path for professional development. Pacific Pro is America’s first professional football league to utilize—and compensate—players not eligible for other professional leagues. Men’s Basketball with three leaving

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| The Coyote men's basketball season has officially ended, and with it comes the ending of a CSUSB basketball career for three senior players. Everett Turner (#3), Ramon Eaton (#24) and Shawn Joseph (#2) will be leaving the Coyotes basketball program. Turner, a finance major from Fontana, was a standout player for CSUSB. In his freshman year at Cal State Dominguez Hills, he started in 21 of the 25 games he played. As a sophomore, he moved to CSUSB and averaged 9.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists (71 total) and 1.9 steals (49 total) per game, which earned him a spot on the 2015 CCAA Honorable Mention Team. Women’s Basketball Seniors

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| The women's basketball team ended its season with a winning record and a trip to the conference tournament for the third consecutive year. The Coyotes were predicted to finish 10th in the preseason conference poll but they didn't let that set them back. They used it as motivation to prove everyone in the conference wrong. Coyotes finished the season with a 15-10 overall record. In the California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA), they went 12-8, earning them the no. 5 seed in the CCAA tournament. Brenna McIntosh, former Coyote women's volleyball star and three-time All-American, is currently living her dream playing professional volleyball in Peru for the Cesar Vallejo University (UCV) Deportes. The Deportes play in the Liga Nacional Superior Voleibol (LNSV) which is the top league in Peru. Her talent isn't the only thing that got her to the high level she is playing at now. Crebbin looking for second straight playoff appearance

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| The CSUSB women's basketball team determination on and off the court lead to a 67-59 victory against CSU Dominguez Hills on Feb. 11. Basketball season is in full effect, and playoff selections are happening in about two weeks. Women's basketball is currently sitting in fifth place out of 13 teams in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference, according to the CCAA website. The top eight teams in the conference will move on to compete in the playoffs held at CSU San Marcos on Feb. 28. The Coyotes current overall record is 13-7. Coyotes prepping for end of season

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| Women’s basketball head coach Susan "Sue" Crebbin is in her second year with the Coyotes and is looking to improve her 14-13 record from last season. Coyotes currently stand in fifth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Conference (CCAA), five spots ahead of the pre-season conference poll which projected them to finish 10th. Crebbin has the help of assistant coaches Tulyah Gaines and Jasmane Clarendon. The three work diligently on and off the court to prepare the team to be successful against their opponents. Superbowl LI makes history

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| Superbowl LI, the biggest sporting event of the year, was a roller coaster of emotions for both New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcon fans. Patriots rallied for 25 points and came back from a 28-3 Falcon lead. Patriots went for 75 yards on eight plays, and it was a two yard touchdown run in overtime that earned them their fifth Superbowl title. This has been a crazy year in sports comebacks. The Golden State Warriors let a 3-1 lead go to the Cavilers in the NBA finals and the Cleveland Indians also blew a 3-1 lead to the Cubs in the World Series  Superbowl LI was the first ever Super Bowl game, out of 50 previous, to go into overtime. By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| Win or lose, CSUSB Athletics has the support of superfan Stephan Johnson. Johnson is not just any fan, he is CSUSB's very own Coyote Man. If you have ever attended a Coyote home game, you most likely have seen an energetic fan dressed in a blue sweatsuit repping Coyote gear. You can find him at every game. It does not matter what sport or time of day, Coyote Man will be there supporting his squad. When asked what motivates him to be such a super fan, he replied, "I respect and love each one of the teams." What sets him apart from the 'regular fan' is his devotion to Coyote Athletics. CSUSB gives thanks to the military

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| Current and former members of the military do so much for our country, so CSUSB Athletics and the Veterans Success Center (VSC) teamed up to show our appreciation. U.S. military service members, including active-duty service, reserves, National Guard members, veterans, ROTC and their families filled the Coussoulis Arena on Jan. 21. Admission was free for military personnel. The festivities began with a tailgate that included food, entertainment, giveaways and raffles. It continued inside the arena with more entertainment and different appreciation ceremonies. Major comeback for Alexia Gonzalez

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| CSUSB soccer recruit Alexia Gonzalez is determined to get back on the pitch after her season ending injury. With two months of recovery ahead of her, she is ready to take on the 2017 season. Gonzalez tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) just two weeks prior to the start of the 2016 season, which forced her to sit out the entire year. Gonzalez, a Bakersfield native and two-time first team All-American choice at Taft College, was eager to take her soccer and leadership skills to the Division II level.
