June 7, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Staff Writer| A breakup can sometimes feel as if your whole world was suddenly flipped upside down and although there is no magic spell to make it all better, looking for healthy ways to get over your hardship is essential. “I did not want to talk about it because I didn’t think it was worth talking about," said Jessica Ramos, student. "I knew the relationship was ending but something still lingered." Whether the relationship lasted a week or years, feeling a sense of devastation is a normal reactio. Sheri Meyers, a marriage therapist said, “you’ve gotta feel,”  in her article "Dealing with a Breakup". “If you feel like crying, cry," said Meyers. Summer Destinations

June 5, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Staff Writer| Summer is right around the corner and the time to start planning vacations is now—California is ideal for the summer weather and students share their favorite destinations for vacation time. “Palm Springs has a lazy river that's fun and relaxing to hang around," said student Alexandria Ornelas. "It is the perfect local getaway.” A city located in the middle of the desert may not sound attractive unless you find out about their hot springs, hotels, golf courses and countless spas for a relaxing getaway. On the other hand, the beaches of California tend to be the first on the list of many options people pick. “Laying on the beach is so relaxing … [Read more...] about Summer Destinations

Beside social media app favorites, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, we also rely on apps to maintain our organization and focus throughout the school year. Many of our phones already come programmed with a number of apps like a calendar, calculator, memo recorder and even ITunes U. “Timetable reminds me of all my assignments. I would be running around like a chicken without a head,” said student Esmeralda Aguilar. Planners are essential for the busy bee … [Read more...] about Apps students shouldn’t live without

The American Advertising Federation

April 24, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Contributing Writer| Students have the opportunity to network and gain a position in their future careers through the new, the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The AAF is an organization that includes members across all disciplines representing all facets of the advertising industry. Students consider this club to be long overdue, due to the fact that the American Marketing Association (AMA) and Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) have establishments on campus. “My reasoning to start the club came with the assistance of Tori Qualls (recent Marketing student), as both of us became inspired by the possibilities of success with the … [Read more...] about The American Advertising Federation

April 24, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Contributing Writer| Comic Books & Culture was hosted at CSUSB on April 19, sharing the knowledge of the major influences culture brings into our society and much more. More than 20 students attended the event to hear the stories about talent and culture that guest speakers, Javier Hernandez and Bernyce Talley, had to share. “A painter paints whatever they want, I feel a comic is the same thing, it is an expression of me,” said Hernandez, a self-published author, and award-winning creator of comic book and film "El Muerto." Hernandez started off the event describing his strong influences growing up. He talked about how his culture allowed him to connect … [Read more...] about Comic Books & Culture

Eating a healthy breakfast

April 13, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Staff Writer|  College students have a busy schedule and sometimes it gets in the way of what matters most, like consuming a healthy breakfast. With a society that is continuously on the go and school expenses growing, it’s easy for students to skip meals in order to move on with their day and save a few bucks. Breakfast is an essential meal of the day because it provides a healthy start to the day and is needed to maintain energy. According to Healthy Children, 30 percent of college students go regularly without having breakfast. “With work and school, I’m running around like crazy and I love to sleep in, so I just gave up on the idea of breakfast just so I … [Read more...] about Eating a healthy breakfast

Unit Overloading

March 13, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Staff Writer| Students are overloading on units in an attempt to graduate in a timely manner, however it may be causing a hindrance rather than a benefit. Unit overloading is available to all students on campus who maintain a 3.0 GPA and better, in efforts to allow them to graduate on time. For others, unit overloading is a cheaper and quicker way to ensure graduation. “I did it for two quarters and managed to fill 21 units each because I just liked staying busy, but it just burned me out, and I didn’t feel like it actually benefited me the way I wanted to,” said student Gabe Sanchez. Some students enjoy staying busy as well and take advantage of unit … [Read more...] about Unit Overloading

Sleep Deprivation takes its toll

March 13, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales | Contributing Writer | Lack of sleep continues to add to daily struggles of college students as they attempt to conquer life all at once in order to meet deadlines. According to a study by the center for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 70 percent of teens and people in their early 20’s are not getting the sleep they need. Due to an overload in activities, most college students admit to only getting an average of 6 hours of sleep at night, if they are lucky.   Students are overworked, carrying stress on their shoulders from school, extra-curricular activities, jobs, and the attempt to maintain a social life.   “I’m kind of used to … [Read more...] about Sleep Deprivation takes its toll

Senioritis to the grave

March 6, 2017 by Monica Rosales Leave a Comment

By Monica Rosales |Contributing Writer| The classic four-year graduation routine is becoming something of a myth, as a vast majority of college students are now taking an average of six years to finish their education. As of fall 2016, CSUSB has 12 percent of students that manage to graduate within four years, and 55 percent for students within six, according to its fact and states page. According to a study conducted by National Student Clearinghouse, those same statistics are shown for students all over the country. The “super seniors” route seems to be the choice most often taken now, but not for the reasons some may believe. “College graduation scared me at first when I … [Read more...] about Senioritis to the grave
