On November 13, the Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (CIMES) at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) hosted a special screening of the award-winning animated film, The Tower, along with a question and answer period with its Norwegian director, Mats Grorud. This event was originally scheduled for October 31 including a live Q&A session with the director, but due to the power outage was canceled. The CIMES director, Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb, also a professor of communications studies at CSUSB, found a way to make this screening and Q&A happen via Zoom, since Grorud had gone back to his home in Norway. Returning to the Dodger Stadium this year was the eighth year for Tyler, the Creators in the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival 2019. Presale tickets were sold out back in May way before he released the lineup which was later released in August with a mystery guest as a headliner. Many festival attendees believed the secret artist was going to be R&B singer Frank Ocean but were quickly disappointed when singer/ hip hop artist Drake was the final closer of the festival weekend. CSUSB had its fifth campus closure this quarter due to reports of high 80 mph winds and power outages. On Wednesday, October 30, at 5:20 p.m. the school text alerts went out announcing the closure. However, as some students celebrated the campus shutdown, others are conflicted by it. There are many student employees on campus who gain hours throughout the week working in the different departments, resource centers, and campus restaurants here on campus. These students get paid by the university to work on campus. Federal Work-Study is a financial aid award given to the students who qualify for it.
