Senior Year Struggles

February 12, 2018 by Anthony Perez 3 Comments

Four years ago, it was unimaginable that school could get any more stressful than the first quarter of freshman year. Somehow, we got through four years of finals, projects, and late night study sessions and we can see that bachelor's degree at the end of the road. Now that it’s year four, what do we have to do to keep ourselves strong during our last stretch? “It’s starting to get real,” said fourth year CSUSB student Nhi Nyguen. “I’m having to look at grad schools more seriously now and I know there’s no room for error this time around. I think the realization of this is our last year adds the extra stress on top of everything else.” Senior year can bring a whole slew of new things … [Read more...] about Senior Year Struggles

Alfredo Cruz and Latinos in the Inland Empire

January 24, 2018 by Anthony Perez 2 Comments

Many students and staff gathered on the fifth floor of the Pfau Library to hear the words of Alfredo Cruz, the first Mexican-American to be hired at National Public Radio (NPR) and talked about his experiences in getting to that position. Cruz, who is originally from the Inland Empire, worked at Inland Empire NPR affiliate KVCR for four years and brought many opportunities to young broadcasters. “I started off by just getting my foot in the door with an internship, from there I worked as hard as I could so that I could get where I wanted to be.” He comes from a humble Latino background and he attempts to help out other young Latinos as they come up. “The Inland Empire has the … [Read more...] about Alfredo Cruz and Latinos in the Inland Empire

More than Just Pictures: Thomas McGovern

November 8, 2017 by Anthony Perez 2 Comments

There are many passionate professors on our campus, but Thomas McGovern separates himself from the field with his love for teaching, his photographic skills, and his appreciation for art, in any form. Thomas is originally from New York, where he found his love for artistic photography. In 1986, Thomas learned of some former friends who had passed away from AIDS, which at the time was a huge epidemic. “There was a lot of stigma about having AIDS,” said McGovern. “Many doctors wouldn’t even treat you, it was really a crazy time.” In response to this Thomas, started a 10-year project to raise awareness on the disease. In his decade long project, Thomas became known as a an insider for … [Read more...] about More than Just Pictures: Thomas McGovern

More Than Just a Ride

November 6, 2017 by Anthony Perez 3 Comments

When you’re out on the road, you like to look good and feel good, but can you get that from just buying a car off the lot? The best way to get the car you want is to build it from scratch. It becomes more than just a way of getting from point A to point B; it becomes a lifestyle. I’m sure we all know the feeling of driving down the road with the windows down and your music turned all the way up. Most people see this as just a way to pass the time when you’re driving home from work or school. But, to people like Saul Medina, it is much more than that. It is a way to relax and escape from the daily stresses of life. “I love my car because it’s mine,” Medina said. “I get to take it out … [Read more...] about More Than Just a Ride

Interview With the Mayor

November 1, 2017 by Anthony Perez Leave a Comment

Coyote Radio was able to sit down with the Mayor of San Bernardino, Carey Davis, and take the time to ask him a few questions about the city. Davis has been in office since 2014 and even received his master's of business administration from CSUSB. Mayor Davis gave insight on developmental plans and future projects for San Bernardino, as well as the city's participation in the L.A. County Fair. Q: Mayor, what is the most exciting thing you and your team are working on? One of the things we are very excited about is the revitalization of the carousel mall. It’s a decades-old monument in San Bernardino. But, unfortunately, as you’ve seen retail go through the bust that it has in the … [Read more...] about Interview With the Mayor
