Auto 6” or “Ghost of Yotei” being anticipated for more details (or even a release date) they remained absent this time around. Luckily they did give fans a taste of what to expect for months to follow.

Starting things off at the State of Play, Capcom’s “Monster Hunter: Wilds” makes a return reaffirming its launch set for February 28, 2025. Sony showcased all of the pre-order content and the first of many updates which added the monster “Mizutzune”. Sega then released two trailers for new games “Shinobi: Art of Vengeance” launching August 29, 2025 and “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds“, which is said to be incorporating elements from “Sonic Riders” launching February 21, 2025. Lastly a trailer for the newest installment in the Digimon series, “Digimon Story: Time Stranger“, left fans excited to see how this classic game has been expanded.

Ultizero Games’ revealed “Lost Soul Aside” which resembles Square Enix’s “Final Fantasy 15” featuring fast paced combat and customizable loadouts with synergetic combos similar to the combat in the “Devil May Cry” series. “Lost Soul Aside” is set to release on PlayStation 5 and PC launching May 30, 2025. The “Like a Dragon” series also introduced new content with “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” allowing a demo-play version on the PlayStation store alongside “Ichiban’s Holiday” (a crossover DLC for Dave the Diver) featuring the protagonist from “Like a Dragon“.

Prominent game publisher, 2K, promoted back-to-back titles including “WWE 2K25”. They also unveiled The Island with the next DLC slated to launch sometime in March 2025. The Island will be a social hub for up to 50 players to get together to wrestle, access in-game microtransactions, and more. Gearbox revealed a new trailer for “Borderlands 4” showing the new abilities characters in the game will have to pair with a new movement system allowing for faster-paced combat in comparison to previous iterations in the series.

Developer Dark Pictures makes a return releasing an announcement trailer for their upcoming game, “Directive 8020“, a sci-fi horror taking inspiration from John Carpenter’s “The Thing“. This continues Dark Pictures’ signature focus on player-driven decision-making. Continuing horror reveals, “Five Nights At Freddy’s: Secret of The Mimic” is the newest title in the “FNAF” launching June 13, 2025. Moonwood, an indie studio, presented a new cinematic trailer for “Midnight Walk” introducing this artistic horror game played through the medium of claymation.

 Darwin’s Paradox, a new platformer from Konami, stars an octopus trying to escape a food plant. No official release date has been set, however; the game will be in stores 2025. Koei Tecmo revealed a spin-off, rogue-like game based on the “Warriors” franchise called “Warriors: Abyss”. Onimusha returns with “Onimusha 2” getting a remaster set to launch May 23, 2025 with a new trailer highlighting the next iteration in the series “Onimusha: Way Of The Sword“. This game features the legendary swordsman – Miyamoto Musashi. Konami follows suit with “Metal Gear Solid: Delta” releasing August 28, 2025 and the return of Snake Vs. Monkey minigames from the original game.

Hell is Us” is an upcoming title from developer Rogue Factor, revealed a new trailer exploring various narrative points of the game set to release September 4, 2025. Neowiz’s action-rpg “Lies of P” will be releasing “Overture”, a prequel DLC set to release the Summer of 2025. The State of Play then highlights a new upcoming game from Q-Games and Baiyon entitled “Dreams of Another” a third-person shooter using weapons to create new surroundings. Bend Studio’s cult classic, Days Gone makes a surprising announcement with a remaster April 25. The remaster will feature new additions to the game and will only cost 10 dollars to previous owners of the original game.

Next “Tides of Annihilation” make its debut by Eclipse Glow Games, showing off the setting taking place in an alternative version of London with familiar landmarks. The last games announced were “Metal Eden” by Reikon Games launching May 6, 2025. “MindsEye” by Build A Rocket Boy, a third person cyberpunk game similar to “Cyberpunk 2077”. Lastly, “Saros” being the final game shown from Hoursemarque who was also behind “Returnal” which is another roguelike from the developer with the main protagonist voiced by Rahul Kohli.

With so many games being announced across the internet it was easy to miss the lack of classic Playstation titles making a return such as “InFamous”, “Resistance”, “Jack & Daxter”, or even “LittleBigPlanet“. With so many legacy franchises being missed by long time fans, this State of Play fell short of audience expectations.
