January 31, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Daniel DeMarco |Assistant Features Editor| CSUSB graduates have the highest average student loan debt of any Cal State or UC in the state at $23,656, according to the website projectonstudentdebt.org. According to a previous article the Coyote Chronicle stated, “Sixty-one percent of CSUSB students graduate with student loan debt, which is 10 percent above the state average.” A reason that this is such an issue could be related to college students who are also the first in their family to attend college. Sid Robinson, who retired as the associate vice president of public affairs for CSUSB on Jan. 31, 2014 said, “About 70 percent of our graduates are the first in their families … [Read more...] about First time students and debt

January 31, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Courtney Mata |Staff Writer| President Barack Obama called for a wage increase, a removal of troops in the Middle East, and a reduction of foreign oil usage in his State of the Union address. Obama is trying to restore our nation’s trust because many Americans are discouraged by our previous year. Congress has yet to support Obama’s goals, according to Washington Post staff writers David Nakamura and David A. Fahrenthold. “Instead of pledging to fix the mess, the president was now promising to find ways around it, and change policies on his own authority,” said Nakamura and Fahrenthold in The Washington Post. “Obama returned to a familiar problem, Washington’s bitter and stalemated … [Read more...] about President’s address covers vital issues

By Santiago Castillo |Staff Writer| After seven years of construction, Interstate 215 is finally finished. The project cost $647 million, funded through a combination of half-cent sales tax, state bond money and $128 million in federal stimulus dollars, according to The Press-Enterprise. The widened Interstate 215 affects CSUSB because it makes it easier and faster to travel, but the effect it will have economically depends on the economic growth of the community. “It’s also expected to bring a boost to the bankrupt city of San Bernardino, which hopes the improvements will attract more business to the area,” added The Press-Enterprise. “The level of the positive impact may directly … [Read more...] about I-215 finally complete after seven years of construction
