Imagine yourself exploring one of the most popular national parks in its winter glory.
Take the perfect opportunity and visit Yosemite National Park on the Rec Center’s Yosemite Winter Exploration trip.
The Yosemite Winter Exploration is a three day camping trip that allows participants to sight see the many hot-spots of Yosemite National Park and participate in some outdoor activities.
Potential participants have until the end of this month to sign-up and partake in this trip. The registration for the Yosemite Winter Exploration takes place in person at the Rec Center.
“I believe people have an urge to be adventurous. Participants will be able to take many different things from this trip. I do think that this will be a gate way trip that will lead them to travel more,” said Alex Weis, CSUSB outdoor staff member and trip leader.
A detailed itinerary will be provided to participants describing the plans for each day explained Weis.
“Each trip is planned out at least a quarter prior to the trip date. The trips vary in what types of activities will be conducted. Some years there is ice skating, snowshoeing and hiking. We will definitely see amazing views of Yosemite Falls and the mountains,” said Weis.
The base camp includes heated tent cabins in Curry Village for everyone that participate, and then the adventures will begin.
There will be side-trips to visit waterfalls, explore the valley and take in the breathtaking views of the mountains.
“The Yosemite Winter Exploration begins on February 28 and ends on March 2. The exploration is open to anyone interested over the age of 18 and CSUSB students who want to sign-up. The deadline to sign-up is Febr 26 at 6 p.m.” said Weis.
Specific clothing and equipment will be required to attend the exploration to ensure that everyone is prepared for the weather they will be faced with.
“There is a checklist provided for participants regarding the required gear, clothing, personal items and equipment. Gear such as sleeping bags and daypacks may be checked out for free from CSUSB Outdoors. Clothing such as snow pants, jackets, and snow gloves may also be checked out for free,” said Weis.
The cost for the trip is $150 to all Student students and CSUSB Student Recreation and Fitness Center members, $180 for Alumni, $195 for Affiliate members, and $300 for Community members.
These fees will help cover the cost of admission, food, and the gear that you will use while on the trip.
“The cost for the trip includes two breakfasts, two lunches, group gear, personal outfitting, knowledgeable leaders, and entry fees. Participants will also want to bring some extra cash for travel meals and dinners. Don’t forget about the great souvenirs sold at Yosemite as well. Overall, the price is well worth it for this experience of a lifetime,” said Weis.
A pre-trip meeting for the exploration will be held on February 26 at 6 p.m. in the Rec Center Conference Room.
Everyone that plans on making the trip needs to make sure they can make it to the meeting as well to keep a look out for any future outdoor events that could peak their interest.
