The ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Delta sororities combined forces to bring on the event A Mile In Her Shoes.

The event brought out a lot of people to participate including the men from Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Phi Beta Sigma.

It was intended to raise awareness of sexual assault, abuse and rape that happen everyday to women.

A Mile In Her Shoes challenged men to wear red women’s high heels and walk a “mile” around the library lawn to show men that it was not easy for a women to look good, but for them to also understand that the things they say when a woman looks “hot” or “sexy” could be taken for sexual assault.

Tammye Smith a sexual assault advocator came out to speak to the campus about how a man can help join the revolution of women’s empowerment.

Now, let’s take a look in the life and times of the gentlemen of Sigma Nu Fraternity Inc.

They were founded on the CSUSB campus in 1991. Their colors are black, white, and gold, and their official mascot is the snake. They currently have 278 chapters and their motto is “Excelling with Honor.”

Their philanthropy is the Helping Hand Initiative and two of the past events that they have held on campus was a toy drive and Bid-a-Nu. In the community they helped with a Christmas Celebration were they served food to the less fortunate.

Adrian Lozano, brother of Sigma Nu said, “My favorite was feeding the homeless because the reaction received from the families we fed was priceless.” He adds, “[I] learned to become an individual who not only thinks about himself but the community as a whole.”

I also wanted to share a look in to the members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. You have seen these gentlemen participate in Lambda Thetas Alpha’s Stroll fest, you saw them at the A Mile In Her Shoes event, and they are continuously representing their letters in the most positive way by showing support wherever and whenever they can.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. was founded on the campus of CSUSB on Feb. 13, 1981. Their colors are Royal Blue and Pure White, their mascot is the Dove, and they have over 700 chapters established. The Phi Beta Sigma Educational Foundation is their philanthropy.

In the events they have held on campus were The Lyricist Lounge, Twitter Social, Financial/Resume Workshop, a Charity Bowling Night, and several other events.

Community Service Chair and Historian, Mike Sessions, states that his favorite event was, “The Lyricist Lounge because of the showcase of various talents in California and the tradition that it holds. All artists were able to build their own fan bases,” because he helped in planning and recording the event.

Mike has also learned, “That, as a person, my responsibility is much bigger than myself. I must assist in helping build other people so we cannot only have a stronger foundation as students, but as one.”
