Queer & Transgender Resource Center calls for participation

October 16, 2019 by Adrienne Rosiles 6 Comments

The Queer and Transgender Resource Center lacks representation and participation for events, though professors and students on campus are helping raise awareness for the LGBTQ+  community. According to Bailey Stumreiter, lead student assistant of the Queer and Transgender Resource Center, the center is not being recognized enough and is sometimes overshadowed by the bigger organizations such as ASI. “Sometimes the campus [strategic communication office] is not willing to promote our events, but they’ll promote other centers’ events,” says Stumreiter. The Queer and Transgender Resource Center is one of the many centers on campus that provides resources to students, such as … [Read more...] about Queer & Transgender Resource Center calls for participation

The bathroom law

April 25, 2016 by Archived posts 132 Comments

By Shirleena Racine Baggett |Staff Writer| Men, women and the other? That tends to be the way our country classifies its population. This division making headline news is in regards to which bathroom we should go into in public. According to Monash University, sex refers to biological differences, internal and external sex organs, while gender describes the characteristics that a society or culture defines as masculine or feminine. In other words, sex is biological and cannot be argued upon, and gender has been cultivated into picking and choosing which traits fit one’s personal identity. North Carolina’s Gov. October 12, 2015 by Archived posts 207 Comments

H&M, the world’s second largest re tailer, makes fashion history with their selection of eccentric and unique individuals, including 23-year-old Mariah Idrissi: the first hijabi wearing model in the fashion world. By Essence Dennis |Staff Writer| Misogyny, Transphobia, Boko Haram—these words should scare you. They are literally and figuratively detrimental to the health of women around the world, transgender individuals who are accepting themselves, and Boko Haram who are popping people off as if they were toy soldiers a toddler chucks away with no thought. “We should clothe ourselves with compassion and act in such a way that exudes kindness,” said student Nicholas Navarro. However, countless slayings and acts of violence, especially against women have occurred and are continuing to escalate. In Detroit, Mary “Unique” Spears, a mother of three, was murdered after she rejected a … [Read more...] about It’s a strange world we live in
