Students Feeling the Squeeze at The Pump

June 22, 2022 by Alex Kraskowsky 1 Comment

By: Alex Kraskowsky, Rigo Barragán, John SalasSan Bernardino For CSUSB students and staff, daily commuting is the norm with most of the University’s students living off campus. Most of these commuters come from all over San Bernardino and Riverside counties from Montclair all the way to Rialto. Ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the decreased oil output from Russia and OPEC, there has been a massive surge in inflation and more importantly in gas prices. With the price per gallon now reaching upwards of $6.40 it has become increasingly harder for students to make their daily commutes to school. Combine this recent surge in prices with the average yearly income of a student; … [Read more...] about Students Feeling the Squeeze at The Pump

Campus community’s concerns over parking

November 13, 2019 by Tanya Jansen 329 Comments

As the fall quarter gets busier, the struggle to find parking is at its peak. Campus officials have plans for helping students find parking with the help of new software. Savanna Trombetta, a senior at CSUSB who works two campus jobs, said that finding parking has always been difficult for her, even when she lived in student housing. “I think we can handle the mass number of students here but just not in parking terms because we’re such a heavy commuter campus. I think that the commuter aspect is really negatively impacted the way our parking services work,” said Savanna Trombetta, who is hopeful for the possible parking solution. CSUSB Assistant Professor for Computer Science … [Read more...] about Campus community’s concerns over parking

Campus residents scramble to adapt to power outages

November 13, 2019 by Tanya Jansen 208 Comments

High wind and fire alerts caused last-minute power outages, leaving residents without hot water or electricity. The university was closed for five days last month, leaving many students with nowhere to go. High winds have always affected CSUSB, but starting this fall, due to the fires last year, Southern California Edison (SCE) power company has been taking more precautions than usual. [tweet 1188868632064872460 align='center'] Campus had little warning and no control when SCE turned off-campus power, according to Jon Merchant, the interim director for The Department of Housing & Residential Education (DHRE). "We're kind of at the mercy of the power company in terms of when … [Read more...] about Campus residents scramble to adapt to power outages

Campus police seek the community’s help to ensure campus safety

October 16, 2019 by Maria Acosta 39 Comments

Campus police work with members of the community to help make the campus’ grounds safe and accessible to anyone who steps foot on campus. Campus safety is a major concern for students, staff, and faculty. They rely on their campus’ police to keep them safe and for everyone else who visits the campus. According to a research study conducted by a criminal defense lawyer, Graham Donath, and digital agency 1point21 Interactive, San Bernardino is ranked as the most dangerous city in California. The crimes that take place in San Bernardino affect future incoming students and their feelings of security. Students’ concerns for safety and available resources impact their involvement in … [Read more...] about Campus police seek the community’s help to ensure campus safety

A look at the CSUSB Health Center

June 4, 2019 by Brian Ensman 194 Comments

The CSUSB Student Health Center is an integral part of Cal State San Bernardino. Campus health centers, in general, are a necessary part of the CSU system. Student fees are also a necessary part. For the 2018-2019 school year, each CSUSB student was charged $86.93 dollars for each quarter that they were enrolled. 19 percent of the student population used Health Center services this year. “Especially with school, sometimes health tends to be the last priority,” Health Educator Melissa Acuna said. “Taking care of your health now and learning the foundations really carries on into adult life.” For all the services that the Health Center does cover, there are some that are missing. If you … [Read more...] about A look at the CSUSB Health Center

What is Senioritis?

May 15, 2019 by Priscilla Medina 143 Comments

Is school feeling like a drag lately? You’re not alone! With the finish line so close yet feeling so far, we asked fourth-year student, Graphic Design and English major, Madison Thompson on how she avoids senioritis. “I try to do things that make me happy that doesn’t involve school like hanging out with my friends. I think it has to do with me being really chill about the school, I mean I maintain my GPA above a 3.0 and don’t let school get to me like that because my GPA does not define who I am”.    A great majority of college students suffer from senioritis. The education world shares that there are a copious number of symptoms that come with senioritis. Such as: Mild to … [Read more...] about What is Senioritis?
