By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer There really is meaning to the phrase “CSUSB, come here, go anywhere.” Attending the Spring Into Media: Pros and Conversation Symposium on May 23 opened my eyes even more to what going to college is all about. This event was put together by the communications department and the Digital Media Communications Club, as a way to recognize students and staff for their achievements and allow students to hear from groups of panels within public relations, human communication and mass media. “When you showcase your achievements it’s not as effective if you’re just showing it to each other,” said Michael Salvador chairman of CSUSB’s communication department, “so … [Read more...] about Digital Media Communication club recognizes students and staff for their achievements

Inland Empire radio host comes back to his roots
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Jeff Pope, morning radio personality for 99.1 KGGI has been articulating the airwaves for over 18 years. Pope, a 1992 CSUSB graduate, got his start at Coyote Radio in 1988. He entered a communications project for radio broadcasting contest, putting together a show that consisted of news, sports, traffic and “a joke or two” and won. With thoughts of going to colleges like Cal State Fullerton or University of California Santa Cruz, it was the promise of being put on CSUSB’s radio station that convinced him that this school was the college that could make his dream a reality. Pope remembers the words a recruiter once told him, “I guarantee you, if you … [Read more...] about Inland Empire radio host comes back to his roots
Anti-Human Trafficking comes to CSUSB
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Imagine you’re promised a fairy tale; yet thrust into a nightmare. Alone, vulnerable and with no foundational support, Amy Andrews was looking to escape her current life and told the story of how it all went wrong at the Anti-Human Trafficking awareness event last Tuesday, May 7 in the Santos Manuel Student Union. She described her encounter with human trafficking by being taken at a party when she was 12 years old. Two men approached her and asked if she wanted to come with them to Los Angeles. Since she believed there was nothing keeping her in Palm Springs, she went after the life she was promised by the two men. “[It] starts off with a fantasy … [Read more...] about Anti-Human Trafficking comes to CSUSB
Buying parking passes online is an inconvience
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Parking Services should change their name to Parking Inconveniences. Other than the run of the mill issues we all have with parking, the implementation of buying parking passes strictly online ends up being more of an inconvenience than a service. I went in to their office to discover why this new policy was put in place, but even after two separate visits and questioning, I couldn’t get a clear answer. When asked about his experience with Parking Services, student Mario Orellana said, “They need to step up their game. They have one job, hand out parking passes.” Though their workers are nicer than the ones at the DMV, hardly any student is happy … [Read more...] about Buying parking passes online is an inconvience

And nearly 74 percent of Americans personally know or have known someone who has been a victim of domestic violence, according to the Domestic Violence Resource Center. Is dieting the answer?
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Surely healthy eating habits can be hard to maintain, especially for college students, so are diets the best option? When most people think about losing weight they think about going on a diet however, that does not have to be the case. Professor Dr. Dorthy Chen Maynard talks about changing one’s lifestyle as opposed to thinking of their weight loss mission as a diet. “Eat anything you want, but stop eating when you’re satisfied,” said Chen Maynard. What one can do is when they attend a restaurant grab a to-go box first and take half of the food away and save the other half for later. Spacing your meals and eating smaller portions throughout the … [Read more...] about Is dieting the answer?

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The Coyote’s caught fire from 3-point range propelling them to their first win of the season, with their backs against the wall and down 12 points late in the first half, beating UC San Diego 90-82. The game tested the Coyotes’ ability to remain calm and stick to their game plan Nov. 24 at Coussoulis Arena, leading them to their first CCAA victory. Alexander sees NBA in his future
By, Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Kwame Alexander has flown himself into the limelight with his backboard-breaking dunking ability, but his humble attitude off the basketball court makes his celebrity status unknown to many. Alexander, the All-CCAA senior forward seemed surprised at his YouTube popularity with over 800,000 views on YouTube for his high flying slam dunks, appearances on ESPN, ABC and NBC as well as the number two play on SportsCenter’s top 10 plays of the week. Coach Oliver unsatisfied with 44 point win
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The Coyotes were able to earn a 97–53 victory in their only exhibition game of the year against Cal Tech. The game was an opportunity for head coach Jeff Oliver to see what more needs to be improved despite a 44 point win. “We were awful in every aspect of the game,” he said. “We didn’t stick to our defensive principals, our transition defense was atrocious and offensively [we] didn’t execute one iota.” There were a few moments in which Cal Tech was able to find an open player off of a screen for a three point shot. This play ran three consecutive times at one point in the game, and while they wound up as empty possessions for Cal Tech, the looks they … [Read more...] about Coach Oliver unsatisfied with 44 point win
