Vox pop: How has social distancing affected your friendships?

November 17, 2020 by Jamiana Gateb 7 Comments

Students at CSUSB were asked to reflect on how the pandemic has affected their friendships.   Alex Hernandez, Biology major, Junior “So for me personally, I definitely 'ghosted' or lacked in communicating with friends mainly because of all the mental stress I went through trying to handle work, school, and other obstacles all during a pandemic. I don’t really think people understand the idea that keeping up with your friends during all of this honestly takes a lot of work and, I guess in a sense, drains you a bit. It’s not that your friends personally drain you, but more of the fact that it’s mentally draining having to juggle so many responsibilities on top of trying to handle your … [Read more...] about Vox pop: How has social distancing affected your friendships?

Open Relationships

February 6, 2017 by Stanisha Parker 151 Comments

By Stanisha Parker |Staff Writer| How would you respond if your significant other wanted to be in an open relationship—would you continue or walk away? In order to answer this question, one has to know what an open relationship is. Open relationships are defined as "a committed relationship between two individuals who want to share a life together, but agree to a non-monogamous lifestyle," according to Open Relationships, a website featuring detailed information about polyamory. The concept is that both partners are allowed to date and have romantic or physical involvements with other people if desired. An interviewee, who will remain under the pseudonym "Joe Jack" for … [Read more...] about Open Relationships

Till swiping left do us part

November 14, 2016 by Geraldine Carrillo 138 Comments

By Geraldine Carrillo |Staff Writer| We swipe right if the person is attractive. Later, a conversation strikes by an instant message notification with a goal - a one night stand, or a long term relationship. The way we communicate with others has not only changed our way of living, but also our way of loving. Is it courtship, love or just simply sex? Finding the right person for the right reason is what makes these dating sites and apps a bit foggy and misleading. “I have used a couple of dating sites maybe twice or three times, I don't go on there to find love, I honestly just go to have a good night or hook up,” said student Jose Arellano. Although some people do think … [Read more...] about Till swiping left do us part

Experiencing Florida

June 9, 2016 by Steffanie Martinez 326 Comments

By Steffanie Martinez |Staff Writer| There are vast differences between Florida and California. Firstly, the thing people comment the most on is the weather. Whenever I meet guests while working my shift, and they find out I’m from California, their first comment is always, “What are you doing here? Why would you leave?” I never realized how great California actually is until I got to see it from an outsiders’ perspective. Many of my friends tell me that California is “the dream.” The humidity and constant tropical rain is not something I would like to take back home with me. Yet living in Orlando in particular, has so much beauty that it is hard to allow the weather to … [Read more...] about Experiencing Florida

The Etiquette of Sexting

June 9, 2016 by Elina Urrutia 4 Comments

By Elina Urrutia IStaff WriterI Sexting is the new iteration of cybersex. It is the sending of sexually explicit photos, images, text messages or emails through a cell phone or other mobile device. “All across the country, teenage boys and girls are using the built in cameras on their cellphones to take nude and semi-nude photos of themselves, and sending them to boyfriend/girlfriends, friends or classmates,” said American civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred. According to iKeepSafe.org, “A 2010 nationwide survey sponsored by LG Mobile Phones found that 1-in-3 teens have participated in sexting and 1-in-4 thinks it’s a normal part of teen life. The survey also found that ‘for many … [Read more...] about The Etiquette of Sexting

Dating and Relationship Goals

May 5, 2016 by Archived posts 143 Comments

Rachel Rundengan |Staff Writer| Is it just me, or is my generation (generation Y) extremely pessimistic about dating and relationships? As I examine the trends and humor in social media such as Instagram, Vine, and Twitter, I began to realize that if not all, most are associated with courtship and romance. Whether it would be about a man being too desperate, or a woman being overly jealous, they all have one thing in common – and that is cynicism. The irony of all this is the creation of a new trend that stemmed from the bitterness of generation Y, the “relationship goals.” The general idea of “relationship goals” is everything that a person finds perfect in a relationship—of … [Read more...] about Dating and Relationship Goals

Valentine’s Day survival guide

February 9, 2016 by Archived posts 41 Comments

By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| Valentines Day is right around the corner and do you know what that means? Bingo—you guessed it: first dates, roses, chocolates, teddy bears, and potential new relationships. Ahhh, the romanticism. Or it can be completely opposite: single, stuffing your face with chocolate ice cream, watching reruns of "Friends," and wiping your runny nose on your cat. Though the second scenario sounds quite tempting, you will not spend Valentine's Day alone. The ratio of single men in their 20's to single women in their 20's is 1.2 to 1 according to the website Statistic Brain Research Institute. You will not be part of either of those ratios. Having a … [Read more...] about Valentine’s Day survival guide

Relationships are official regardless of titles

November 2, 2015 by Archived posts 230 Comments

By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| My dad never asked my mom to be his girlfriend when they started dating 23 years ago. So, does that mean my parents are still "hooking up" to this day? Of course not. They have three children together and are fully committed to each other. Titles don't mean anything. Relationships don't need a title to be considered official. Lacking an official title does not make a relationship faulty or weak. Two people can be completely comfortable and happy with one another maintaining an Unofficial Exclusive Relationship: "When two people are dating, but not in a relationship. Even though they are not officially together, both individuals are not looking to get … [Read more...] about Relationships are official regardless of titles

Coyote dating Expectations

October 25, 2014 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Danielle Brooks |Staff Writer| Dating in college can come easy for some and may not be a priority for others. Some go to college looking to find their future spouse while the rest are enjoying the single life looking to have a good time. “College students prefer short-term, casual relationships over long-term relationships because it allows them to focus on their academic and career goals,” according to an article by Heather Fishel from campusexplorer.com. “I’m perfectly okay with being single right now. I’m young and I just want to make the best of my college experience and not let anyone get in the way of it,” said student Cheyenne Crawford. Since many students would … [Read more...] about Coyote dating Expectations
