by Leo Fontes I will never forget the hour, The news of my 3rd blooming flower. You helped me lose sight of my sour, Delighted me proud as a tower. I smiled, I danced and I dreamed, My pain seemed to be all redeemed! My heart had ignited! It beamed! For only a moment it seemed. By Hairuo Yi |Staff Writer| Chingona Fire, a group of poets plans to hold an event of spoken word poetry and self-empowerment Thursday, Nov. 3, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the SMSU room 107. Felicia De La Isla, a staff member of the Women’s Resource Center said, “Chingona Fire will bring their “perspective of Latino women.” The main purpose of this event is to remove the stereotype of Latino women and bring confidence to the community. “There are lots of people not familiar with Latino culture are mixing everything,” said De La Isla. Bring on the Jazz

By Adriene Moore |Staff writer| Dim the lights, sip your coffee and snap your fingers as the jazz ensemble of CSUSB gears up to host award-winning jazz quartet Poem at its first ever Jazz Fest on May 21, 2011. In addition to Poem, the jazz ensemble for Riverside Community College will be opening the show and then the CSUSB jazz ensemble will follow their performance, ultimately leading to the festival’s headliners. Poem is made up of Bob Mintzer on saxophone, Alan Pasqua on keyboard, Darek Oles onbass and Peter Erskine on drums.
