By Suu Elen Manzano |Staff Writer| Victoria's Secret is dead wrong in stereotyping different ethnic groups in their fashion shows. Have they learned nothing from their past experiences? If you are not aware let me take you down memory lane. Victoria's Secret's 2010 fashion show relegated dark skinned models to “Wild Things” clad in tribal tattoos, leopard prints and accompanied by tribal dancers gyrating down the catwalk. In September of 2012 they were at it yet again, this time reducing the Japanese culture to a “Sexy little Geisha,” in a very revealing next-to-nothing outfit complete with chopsticks and fan. Which, by the way, they don’t wear. Geisha’s are quite covered … [Read more...] about Victoria Secret racists or what?!

Local rave moves from San Bernardino to Devore
By Suu Elen Manzano |Staff Writer| The rave show Beyond Wonderland should not have been moved from the National Orange Show (NOS) Events Center in San Bernardino. The event will be held at the San Manuel Amphitheater located in Devore. A similar event hosted by Insomniac Inc., generated millions. With so much money that can be generated, the city should really reconsider moving this event. “Nocturnal Wonderland 2011 generated $11.7 million in direct expenditures in San Bernardino County, after adjustment,” stated Beacon Economics LLC. Revenues of this event will likely match those of Nocturnal Wonderland. LA Times states that complaints about drugs, noise and a clash … [Read more...] about Local rave moves from San Bernardino to Devore
Joining clubs on campus leads to opportunity
By Suu Elen Manzano |Staff Writer| Joining a club on campus can get you more connected. Too often, students just come in for class and fail to get involved with campus activities, such as clubs. For my first three years here I floated from class to class, focusing on trying to get the good grade. I never stayed on campus much longer than the time it took for me to walk from class to the parking lot. College is about making connections and boosting your resume, all things you can do by getting involved in a club on campus “I regret not having been more involved on campus, I wish I would have joined a club and gotten to network and socialize,” said former student Juan Gonzalez These … [Read more...] about Joining clubs on campus leads to opportunity
Youth of America dependent on television
By Jazmin Jett |Staff Writer| Does the highlight of your day revolve around the new episode of the reality show you’re currently addicted to? If you answered yes, then you need a new hobby. As juvenile as it sounds, I haven’t placed much significance on television since “The Rugrats” became “All Grown Up.” Besides the news, which I feel filters a particular set of information for public consumption, what could I possibly learn from watching a substantial amount of television? Maybe watching “True Blood” can assist in my communication with vampires on the daily basis. If I’m lucky, Kim Kardashian can provide insight if I ever decide to trick a guy into liking me. When taking a look … [Read more...] about Youth of America dependent on television
Can’t keep your eyes off your classmates screen? Yeah, me either.
By Suu Elen Manzano |Staff Writer| I don’t think students should use devices such as laptops, tablets or cell phones in the classroom because they are a distraction to others around them. Just the sound of the click-clack-click-clack of a laptop’s keyboard sends me worlds away from the lecture at hand. Not all students pounding away at the keyboard are actually taking notes either. Some are catching up on Facebook, sending e-mails, instant messaging or playing games. The unfortunate sucker sitting behind him will likely get distracted while trying not to gaze into his peers luminous screen. “I don’t want students to get distracted,” says Dr. Derakhshan, professor of Strategic … [Read more...] about Can’t keep your eyes off your classmates screen? Taking instant gratification to a whole new level
By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| Our generation has become so dependent on meds that it is becoming an epidemic. To think curing your issues can be done by taking a simple pill is an antiquated process. Have a headache? Can’t sleep? Anxiety ridden? Your kid is too hyper? There’s a pill for all of that. Along with using medication as a cure all, there is a booming trend of abusing these drugs as a form of recreation. With all the medicine out there, people are not handling it properly. Gatherings such as “pharm parties” or “Skittle parties,” where they put all their pills in a bowl and take them at random, have become increasingly popular. According to the US Department of Health … [Read more...] about Taking instant gratification to a whole new level
