Is San Bernardino County doing enough for the Afghan refugee crisis?

In August of 2021, the US Armed Forces pulled their troops from Afghanistan which led to the Taliban taking over the country. This led to hundreds of thousands of Afghans and their families trying to flee their home country mainly due to safety reasons. Southern California continues to welcome refugees, but are we doing enough for them? Refugees from Afghanistan continue to arrive in Southern California, but unaffordable rents are complicating the process of resettlement as they pursue a better life and hopefully join friends and family already here. Homelessness affects Californians the most

By Catherine Orellana Throughout the recent years, COVID-19 has been one of the biggest issues due to it tremendous repercussions, such as financial burden, and many believe it has been the main contributing factor in homelessness. Although, it is a component, it is not the main one. Instead, the biggest burden that has led many in Californians to homelessness is “the rising housing cost that has exceeded growth in wages,” as stated by the California State Government. With elections around the corner, Senator Melissa Melendez, Dr. Robert Radi, a La Quinta City Council Member, and Lisa Middleton, a Palm Springs City Council Member, speak about the importance of your vote during the virtual press conference held by ASI. Immigration raids in SoCal

Arrests took place across the nation, with 13 of them occurring in San Bernardino. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested over 680 illegal immigrants with records of criminal activity, over the second week in February. "It's disturbing. Decoding Apple: Cook refuses

By Carolyn Solar |Staff Writer| In response to the San Bernardino mass shooting on Dec. 2, 2015, the FBI asked Apple to design a software that would allow them to gain access to the iPhones used by shooters Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik. Apple is refusing to cooperate with the demands the court has ordered. With access to the phone, the FBI is hoping to find out whether others were involved in the attack. FCC says no to “Do not Track”

According to Rueters, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) dismissed a petition that would have required Internet giants, such as Facebook and Google, to let consumers opt out of having their online activity tracked. Gov. Brown pushes for pot

Three bills were approved to the ballot this past week that propose reform in the medical marijuana industry. Congress inaction; land and water fund runs dry

By Raequan Harrison |Staff Writer| National and state parks have part of their funding due to the expiring of the law Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) by Congress. The LWCF’s purpose was to protect wildlife forestries and lands to provide a safe place for the public to visit. State and national parks haven’t always been open to the public.
