By Monica Rosales |Staff Writer| Summer is right around the corner and the time to start planning vacations is now—California is ideal for the summer weather and students share their favorite destinations for vacation time. “Palm Springs has a lazy river that's fun and relaxing to hang around," said student Alexandria Ornelas. "It is the perfect local getaway.” A city located in the middle of the desert may not sound attractive unless you find out about their hot springs, hotels, golf courses and countless spas for a relaxing getaway. On the other hand, the beaches of California tend to be the first on the list of many options people pick. “Laying on the beach is so relaxing … [Read more...] about Summer Destinations

Wine and canvas paint

June 4, 2017 by Arthur Medrano 623 Comments

By Arthur Medrano |Staff Writer| An entertaining alternative has arrived that no longer pits the social drinker to drink and drive, but rather to drink and paint. San Bernardino's Generation Now was tactical in its way of having the community break away from the typical hangout to enjoy festivities at the Garcia Center for the Arts in San Bernardino on May 26. The Spirit and Arts event occurs every fourth Friday of the month and relies on receiving donations from local city patrons to provide resources so individuals don't have to worry about purchasing their own art supplies. The Garcia Center, which is run by SB's Valley Concert Association, is also home to artwork and … [Read more...] about Wine and canvas paint

June 4, 2017 by Franciny Gonzalez 8 Comments

By Franciny Gonzalez |Staff Writer| Finding the right gift for dad can be difficult when an individual is limited on money and time, however, with proper brainstorming, you can create your own DIY for Father's Day. "I always have a hard time finding a gift for my dad, since we have different taste. I think doing a gift made by myself is the best way to go," said student Victoria Lopez. When it comes to thinking of a DIY gift, it would be helpful to list things that your dad enjoys doing, eating or even cooking to get you started with an idea. "Yes, I love to do DIY, because it makes you distress, it's calming for me, whenever I get stressed I go and buy a couple things and start … [Read more...] about D.I.Y Father’s Day Gift

May 29, 2017 by Arthur Medrano 11 Comments

By Arthur Medrano |Staff Writer| The water polo community in Southern California is getting a new representative in our backyard, the the San Bernardino Water Polo Club. Looking for kids from 10-18 years old, the club provides them with an opportunity to learn how to swim and compete competitively with neighboring cities. Owner Angel Servin and head coach Peter Gonzalez had the dream of introducing this club after their previous water polo coach inspired them to bring the aquatic sport to everyone in the Inland Empire. "This is a good way for the kids to become active and be a part of something during summer instead of being at home watching TV and playing video games," said … [Read more...] about The Real Action is Under Water

Simulated classroom learning

April 15, 2017 by Robert Klimper 383 Comments

By Robert Klimper |Staff Writer| Faculty and students discuss the challenges and advantages of online courses in the light of students' demands and quality factors.  Though online courses offer a more flexible schedule, it is not unheard of for students to feel a somewhat of a disconnect to the instructor of the courses as they can just be a wall of text with no face to face interaction. “I probably won’t take another [online course]...I would rather be able to speak to the teacher myself,” said Joscelyne Baisa, a freshman at CSUSB taking her first online course this quarter. CSUSB offers opportunities for professors and students to hold a simulated classroom environment with … [Read more...] about Simulated classroom learning
