By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball program turns 29 this year. It started in 1987, 22 years after Cal State San Bernardino opened in '65. The Women's College World Series, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, began in 1982, and it was not long after (five years) that CSUSB was able to create a softball program. From 1987 to 1989, the team was under head coach Jo Anne Bly. She coached for three consecutive seasons, winning a total of 62 games and losing 42. Softball sweeps Monterey Bay
By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball team swept their four-game series this weekend against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, bringing their total win streak to seven games in a row. The first game of the series started off rough when outfielder Morgan Ratliff was hit by a pitch, putting her on base. The Coyotes bounced back when Amanda Herrera hit a home run to center field, allowing her and Ratliff to score, putting them ahead in the first 2-0. The Coyotes would not score again until the top of the fourth inning when infielder Kaylee Gemmell hit a home run to center field, adding one more to the scoreboard for the Coyotes. Softball splits with UCSD Tritons
By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| Coyote softball split their four-game series up the middle against UC San Diego's Tritons. Winning the first game on April 16, it made it the eighth straight win in a row before UCSD took the second game. They finished strong, winning the last game of the back-to-back doubleheader series on April 17. UCSD started off with two RBI's in the first inning of game one. One of those runs was off of a wild pitch from the Coyotes. CSUSB came back scoring two runs in the second inning thanks to Jessica Brown's triple to right center, bringing home Taylor Ancona and a perfectly executed bunt by Amanda Ramirez to bring Brown home.
