With distant learning continuing in the Spring semester, Pfau Library finds ways to further meet the campus community's needs for resources in the virtual space. Cesar Caballero, Dean of Pfau Library, said, “As soon as the pandemic hit and the campus had to pivot to an online mode, the library acquired as much digitized library content (e-books, e-textbooks, etc.) as we could afford since print copies of books were not initially available. That’s the reason we started planning on the retrieval service, which was implemented this semester." Among several resources, Dean Caballero thought the most essential needs to students would be equipment rentals and research assistance. ASI election results raise questions of representation
Racial representation issues lace the discussions of the spring Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) elections which resulted in Adonis Galarza's election for Presidency. Many of the concerns primarily come from an issue of underrepresentation of the Black students. Although CSUSB is a diverse campus, the majority, 63% of the student population, is Hispanic which designates it as a Hispanic-serving institution. Princess Jackson, the President of the Black Student Union (BSU), feels that, even with Adonis Galarza as ASI's President, some of the needs of the black community may still be neglected. “I felt like the ASI elections were not pleasing, and don’t get me wrong, our new … [Read more...] about ASI election results raise questions of representation
How to get from here to a career
A solid educational background is helpful, and while some students pursue a degree for personal satisfaction, it’s more likely than not, that there is hope for better employment opportunities. One very important concept learned in college, is that research matters. Without research, many issues would go unidentified, there would be a lack of understanding and success as well would be hard to notice. CSUSB 50th year milestone celebration needs more oomph
By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| CSUSB celebrates its 50 year anniversary and what people, including myself, really want to know is: what are we doing in celebration of this milestone? As I walk around campus, I notice that our anniversary isn’t really being talked about. There aren’t any major events that capture students’ attention. Placing congratulatory paw decals on pavement is not enough. Sure, it’s nice to see renovations and banners of achievement everywhere, but social events are what motivates students to get involved. Students walk past these posters, banners, and decals everyday, but they are still ignorant to the fact that we have accomplished an important … [Read more...] about CSUSB 50th year milestone celebration needs more oomph
