Coyotes on the rise

November 6, 2018 by Yesica Gonzalez 77 Comments

The increase of coyote sighting induces panic, a concern of safety for families and pets. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, there has been a rise to 50 reports of which a coyote bit a person in Southern California between August 2012 and August 2016. Professor Cindy Chrisler of CSUSB is an animal health technician, shares her thoughts on why the number of coyotes keeps expanding in the Inland Empire. [su_quote cite="Chrisler"]Their numbers are increasing because they are opportunistic and omnivorous. They take the advantage of any opportunity that crosses their way and eats about just anything. Pros and Cons of Recent Tuition Increase at CSUSB

October 16, 2017 by Daniel Banks 363 Comments

The rise of tuition at CSUSB and other CSU schools by 270 dollars for undergraduate students has been generating some negative buzz among students, but has officials pointing to the positive aspects. The decision was made by the Board of Trustees on March 22, 2017, and was the first tuition increase in seven years. Many of the students that attend CSUSB are receiving financial aid and do not pay out of the pocket for classes, but that isn’t always the case. Some students are paying for school with their own money, or, with student loans because they do not meet the requirements to receive grants. Financial burdens can sometimes add more stress to a person, especially when they’re … [Read more...] about Pros and Cons of Recent Tuition Increase at CSUSB

Scorekeeping for the Coyotes

May 4, 2017 by Lauren 4 Comments

By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| For as long as I can remember, I have attended baseball games with my family, whether to see the Dodgers, Angels or my hometown team, the Quakes. Baseball was always a family event for me, although I did not always sit and watch games the way I do today. My main reasons for going to games were the mascots, food and fireworks. What happened on the field was the least of my worries as long as my team scored runs and won. Over time though, I became more interested in the game itself and started watching them in person and at home on TV. As I grew older, my dad decided it was time for me to learn how to keep score at professional baseball games, … [Read more...] about Scorekeeping for the Coyotes

February 20, 2017 by Kieron Coleman 5 Comments

By Kieron Coleman |Staff Writer| The world has significantly progressed from the days of living in caves, but that doesn’t stop dieters from eating like the cavemen did. There are numerous diets to assist individual needs, dependent upon whether or not a person is dieting for health or physical appearance. The Paleo diet is specifically tailored for a more nutritional approach. Paleo considers not only weight, but genetics allowing one to stay lean, strong and energetic, which many diets struggle to do. It is a diet that includes refined foods, trans fats and sugars. Baseball to start season at home

January 30, 2017 by Lauren 2 Comments

By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The Coyote baseball team, which got its start in 1987, is about to start its 31st season. The team has had its ups and downs throughout the years, as all teams do, but this year's team is ready to pick up from where they left off last year.  They ended last season by losing two games in the CCAA championships, so the team is looking for redemption and a shot at the CCAA title.  "I truly believe this team can make another appearance in the CCAA conference tournament," said current head coach David Martinez. "The top six teams out of 12 make it, so if our team keeps making the strides it is making, we have a chance," added Martinez. The … [Read more...] about Baseball to start season at home

Men’s basketball halfway point

January 21, 2017 by Tyler Vanderelst 74 Comments

By Tyler Vanderelst |Staff Writer| The CSUSB Coyotes men's basketball team's hot start seems to be cooling off after being defeated in five of their last seven games. After starting the season with a record of 5-2, the Coyotes have fallen to 7-7 and 3-6 in conference games.  The season has had its ups and downs due to some significant injuries, and new players getting adjusted to each other, which has led to a season record worse than the team would like to have. "This year we have shown glimpses that we have the ability to be one of the best teams in the nation," said center Phil Reed. "We haven't had the record that we wanted so far, but I am proud of my teammates because … [Read more...] about Men’s basketball halfway point

January 21, 2017 by Breeze Rivers 71 Comments

By Breeze Rivers |Staff Writer| For this upcoming 2017 season, the men's soccer program may hire another new coach, or bring back interim head coach Darren Leslie. The men's soccer program reflects on its past as it gets ready for potential changes, 33 years and nine coaches later. The first men’s soccer team in the history of CSUSB athletics was put together in 1984. Led by head coach Cherif Zein, the newly formed Coyotes proved to be successful with an 11-2-0 winning record on the season. Zein is currently still very involved with coaching soccer.
