“To Kill a Mockingbird” sequel creates stir

By Essence Dennis |Staff Writer| Since Harper Lee’s debut release of “To Kill a Mockingbird” (TKAM) in 1960, Lee has never published another novel -- until now. However some critics are skeptical of the subject matter and relevance to today’s young adult fiction readers. Others are concerned that Lee is being exploited. Cultural appropriators are wrong

Cultural appropriation is taking another person’s culture and making it into some sort of trend or otherwise belittling it whether for personal or popular reasons. In some cases, people are more interested in taking advantage of the culture to generate profit, rather than having respect for the people that are a part of the culture.
