I.E. construction continues

November 3, 2016 by Joshua Adamson 37 Comments

By Josh Adamson |Staff Writer| Inland Empire's local 91 freeway, which just closed two ramps due to construction, continues to delay faculty and students’ commutes to campus. “Construction makes me ten to twenty minutes late [to class],” said student Jose Loera, who added that his commute  is slowed down ten minutes because of construction. The Riverside County Transportation Commission has stated that the 91 Project, which broke ground in 2013, is now 85 percent complete. Students who drive to campus are faced with extensive traffic, especially commuters who come to school from Riverside and Corona. "I live in Riverside, so the traffic is really only bad on the 91," said … [Read more...] about I.E. construction continues

Podcasts great for passing time

May 12, 2016 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Rebekah Deponte |Staff Writer| Podcasts are a great way to relieve the boredom of traveling or just the commute to and from campus. Podcast are similar to radio shows but are made available via internet to download onto computers and mobile devices that cover topics from politics and history to comedy and music. Several podcasts look at music, introducing listeners to new artists and exposing them to genres they would not normally think to listen to. One of these music podcasts is "All Songs Considered," which focuses on new music from emerging artists, as well as icons in the industry. "[I like this podcast because] they show a wide array of music and I think it's … [Read more...] about Podcasts great for passing time

Rock wall promoted

October 18, 2014 by Archived posts 13 Comments

By Javier Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Student Recreation and Fitness Center Rock Wall Coordinator Dominic Trujillo hosted a small competition called, “add-on”. The game, to those not familiar with climbing, is similar to a basketball game of horse. With chalk flying in the air, climbers marked their climbs as they progressed up the wall. With prizes offered to climbers, Trujillo did not have a problem with finding participants. With sunny California’s year-round summer, the Inland Empire is typically warm and dry. Climbers are in constant search of good places to rock climb in our area. If you’re not experienced with climbing, however, this might not be the best thing to do on … [Read more...] about Rock wall promoted

You know you go to CSUSB when…

February 6, 2014 by Archived posts 723 Comments

By Adrian Carlos |Staff Writer| Endless Starbucks line, building frustration from waiting for a parking spot that seems will never appear and waking up frantically in the Student Union after over-sleeping. These are just a few of the things that unite us as students and characterize CSUSB pride. What makes CSUSB students different from students from other universities? I asked students around campus to give me their opinion on what embodies the students here. You know you're a CSUSB student when... "You see the sun come and go down on the same day from the library," said Ivanna Carlos. "When your favorite color and all your clothes are now blue," said Quinn … [Read more...] about You know you go to CSUSB when…

Commuters from high desert are being ignored by Commuter Services

April 12, 2013 by Archived posts 40 Comments

By Lynn Post |Staff Writer| As if the cost of tuition wasn't enough, students who live in the High Desert are getting the short end of the stick due to lack of public transportation options. On average students spend $100 a week, or more, on gas to attend classes at CSUSB. Student Mathew Ford said, “I stay down here during the week because its too expensive to drive back and forth.” Commuter services needs to address the issue and increase communication to students about their services. The only option they have other than driving (or perhaps zip lining) is the Ride Share program also known as the van pool. Availability to students is limited unless they’re one of the … [Read more...] about Commuters from high desert are being ignored by Commuter Services
