By Dahyun Lee, Jimin Jang, & Natalie Martinez 21-year-old CSUSB exchange student Lee Eun-seo worries about her experience so far in a new school. "I think I feel lonely living alone in another country. Before I came to the exchange student program, I thought I could make a lot of friends, but I'm having a hard time making friends. Experts give their advice on how to deal with difficult conversations

An online workshop sponsored by the Speaking Center at JHBC gives students access to communication experts who tell them how to deal with three types of difficult conversations. The Speaking Center at JHBC is a resource for students wishing to hone their communication skills. As well as giving you the option to work one on one with communication consultants, they also sponsor workshops to help students with various communication topics. In-depth look at the Communication Symposium 2019

Entrepreneurship to Disney, crisis to teaching, human resources to media production in film, television and radio, among other topics brought industry veterans and alumni to campus for the 2019 Communication Symposium.  The event hosted live panels for careers in the communication field and culminated in the awards ceremony honoring students and faculty. Annual Communication Symposium Focused on Networking, Success & Gratitude

Growing from half a day last year to a full day event this year, the "COMM Symposium: Transcending Boundaries" brought together students, alumni, faculty and staff on May 7 at the San Manuel Student Union. "This was the first year where a team of 8 student interns put on the event as part of their coursework," commented Professor Jess Block Nerren, who lead the team of interns and organized the event. The symposium had 1270 registrations up from 500 last year and the lunch serving 175 people. The day started with panels in the morning and built up to the award ceremony and lunch in the afternoon. Public Relations Student Society of America Relaunches at CSUSB

After a year and a half hiatus, CSUSB's Public Relations Student Society of America has officially relaunched on Jan. 29. The relaunch of the chapter was joined by Mary Ann Pearson, Chair of Public Relations, for California Baptist University; and the 2015 chapter president of PRSSA Inland Empire, and C.L. Lopez, a faculty member at Cal Baptist. Together, they discussed strategic communication, branding, and career search preparation. Behind the screen: Communication studies video production lab

A valuable resource that some communication majors at the CSUSB campus may not be aware of is the video lab located in the basement of University Hall. The video production lab gives students the resources needed to produce multimedia projects using a variety of equipment and software. Some of the features of the lab are a multi-camera studio and control room, five self-contained editing bays and an assortment of field production equipment, such as DSLR cameras, lights, microphones and tripods. The editing bays are equipped with iMac computers with the entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs installed. Women and Division

    As division is a prominent issue in our society particularly among women, gender division is often overlooked and not taken seriously. A workshop titled “You Go Girl: Building Communities Rather Than Division” was held in the Lower Commons on April 11 to inform the CSUSB community about struggles that women face. Therapist Gwendolyn Brower-Romero presented the workshop as part of the Counseling and Psychological Services Spring 2018 Wellness Workshops.  One of the struggles women face is from other women who feel the need to constantly compete with and criticize them in everything they do. Kyle Finck of LA Times meets with Chronicle staff

On Oct. 31, Kyle Finck of The Los Angeles Times spoke with Coyote Chronicle student journalists about multimedia storytelling and ways in which independent student media can acquire an edge. Finck met with the editorial staff first at 3 p.m. in the Coyote Chronicle newsroom. The topics he discussed were getting to know the staff and offering any helpful advice regarding the process of putting together a weekly publication that he learned while being Editor-in-Chief of the Middlebury College newspaper when he was a university student. Palm Desert Campus Expands with New Radio Class

The CSUSB Palm Desert campus began offering its first radio production class this fall quarter as part of the ongoing goal to expand and diversify the programs offered to students. Maintaining their permanent satellite location since 2002, the campus serves as the only four-year institution in the Coachella Valley and the only university named in the state budget. This June, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a state budget granting the Palm Desert campus three million in one-time funds, making a total of 20 million for the institution to use for future development and to increase enrollment.
