By Jacob Strangis |Staff Writer| CSUSB and other students around the United States are known for their lack of interest in politics. President Barrack Obama bid farewell this past week in his speech at his final White House correspondent dinner. The dinner is a special and iconic annual evening event that strives to represent hundreds of journalists who cover the White House. The dinner is to ensure a strong free press and robust coverage, by allowing access to the president and other government administration officials. Often celebrities, comedians, and other big name people attend these dinner roasts as well and may or may not give a speech of their own, such as Keegan … [Read more...] about Obama’s Final Correspondents Dinner

A sponge out of water
By Alana Roche' |Staff Writer| The SpongeBob characters were only out of the water 15 min. in the latest rendition, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. It appeared to be enough, because the movie grossed $55.4 Million during it's opening weekend. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water premiered on Friday, February 6th and rose quickly to the #1 box office movie in America. Before watching this movie, I looked up the movie reviews. As seen on rottentomatoes.com, 75% of the critics liked it while 63% of the audience also enjoyed it. Seeing those reviews were discouraging, so I looked at Fandango.com and saw it was given 4.5 stars from fan ratings. I decided to take my … [Read more...] about A sponge out of water
Have a problem? Better Call Saul
By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| “Better Call Saul” is a dark and zany spin-off that has potential to spring out from the massive shadow cast by its predecessor, “Breaking Bad”. With the creator of this show, Vince Gilligan, having created the behemoth that was “Breaking Bad,” pressure has been put on him to bring the viewers a show that is … [Read more...] about Have a problem? Dumbin’ it down
By Chelsea Faler |Staff Writer| Dumb and Dumber To was finally released on Nov. 14, the sequel to the first Dumb and Dumber that came out 20 years ago. The two dimwits, Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey), reunite at last, two decades later for one last time. This was not a film I was particularly eager to go see; however, I was quite surprised when I found myself laughing and enjoying the movie more than expected. Harry had been visiting Lloyd in a mental hospital for the past twenty years, and after Lloyd gets back to being healthy, they set off on another careless adventure. Harry is in need of a new kidney, and after learning his parents are of no help, he discovers … [Read more...] about Dumbin’ it down
San Fransokyo gives birth to a new hero

Comedian Doug Stanhope still amongst the elite
By Daniel DeMarco |Features Editor| While waiting for the show to begin, I ask my cousin Jesse Rojas, “How many people here do you think have no idea what they are getting themselves into?” My cousin laughed and looked around the venue and said, “I’m sure there are a few.” He defiantly stands in the face of the mainstream with middle fingers in the air while more known comics get labeled as “offensive,” “uncensored,” “shocking,” “profane,” or “vulgar,” but stand-up comedian Doug Stanhope puts them to shame Doug Stanhope performed at the legendary comedy club, The Comedy Store, in Los Angeles on August 21 as part of his “Last Gasp Tour,” the first night of two that he would perform … [Read more...] about Comedian Doug Stanhope still amongst the elite
