By Kiara Paul |Staff Writer| The men's soccer team put up an exceptional fight against the Chico State Wildcats during last Sunday's game on Oct. 18. Although the Coyotes hustled and gave every ounce of effort they had, they fell short, with the Wildcats winning 2-1. The Wildcats' aggression and attack on the Coyotes was the main factor in the win. The Coyotes started the game strong, defending their goal from any Wildcat attempts to get the ball close enough for a shot. Twenty-three minutes into the game, the Wildcats' Omar Nuno and Coyotes' Erik Gustaffson and Diego Mendoza had all kicked corners, none resulting in a goal. The tension thickened on the field as the … [Read more...] about Men’s soccer suffers devastating loss

Our Coyotes were able to fire off four … [Read more...] about Women’s soccer swept by Wildcats
Baseball loses four in a row
By Nathaniel Lastrapes |Staff Writer| It was a rough weekend for Coyote baseball. The team lost four-straight games in their back-to-back double-headers against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, extending their losing streak to seven games. Cal State Monterey Bay currently holds the best record in the conference and after sweeping the Coyotes in their series this weekend have extended their hot winning streak to 10 games. It has been a long season thus far for the Coyotes who are 3-14, but right-handed pitcher Dylan Mitchell is confident the team can turn the season around "Playoffs are definitely still in reach. It's still very early in the season, so there's still that … [Read more...] about Baseball loses four in a row
Coyote men’s basketball suffers unfortunate loss
By Nathaniel Lastrapes |Staff Writer| Forty minutes were not enough as the Coyotes suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Chico State Wildcats 73-72 on a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Coyotes led 72-70 with 10 seconds remaining in overtime, after Coyote shooting guard, Jacob Thomas, missed a free throw and gave the Wildcats one more opportunity to tie or take the lead. The Wildcats swung the ball around the perimeter to their point guard, Mike Rosaroso, for a wide-open three-point basket that he nailed at the buzzer, securing the victory for the Wildcats. Cross Country finishes at eighth place in CCAA Championship
By Mike Sessions |Staff Writer| At Hooker Oak Park’s six kilometer run, the Coyotes had one thing and one thing only on their mind, and that was first place at the CCAA Championship event. It can be a very intimidating environment seeing as the host Chico State has won the CCAA title six consecutive times, and the fact that they’re ranked seventh in the nation. With the champions lingering in the air being thinner than usual, the Coyotes were up to the challenge. However, so were the other CCAA opponents, bringing CSUSB to eighth place by the end of the event after a total score of 183. This position didn’t sit well at all with the team or the head coach. “I wasn’t happy, … [Read more...] about Cross Country finishes at eighth place in CCAA Championship

Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| If you walked into the woman’s soccer team practice you wouldn’t be able to know that they just lost three straight games and missed the playoffs. Instead, you would hear laughter and chatter about the recent mid-terms and be able to see the smiles spread across their faces. The mood was light and relaxed. It made me wonder if the stressful week of needing to win two games against opponents like Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus had weighed them down. It might have, but it also may have been inexperience. “I thought the game was even,” said Coach Travis Clarke when talking about the team’s loss to Chico on Oct. 19. “Kind of chalk that one … [Read more...] about Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs

Trouble escalated in the third inning when the Wildcats scored another two runs, augmenting their advantage to a 5–0 lead. Junior infielder Alyssa Flores answered the Wildcats’ five-run rally with a booming home run to left field in the sixth inning. Junior infielder Britney Butler continued the ‘Yotes’ comeback by hitting another solo home run to left field in the seventh … [Read more...] about Softball bites the dust in weekend series with Chico State
