By Greg Avetisyan |Staff Writer| The 25th ranked Coyotes suffered a 1-0 defeat to the hands of the 22nd ranked Sonoma State Seawolves. Freshmen Kiana Quarles, Susan Ibarra, and Jessica Koch had the only three shots on goal for the Coyotes during Sunday’s game. Sonoma State’s Taylor Enzler scored in the 86th minute to give her team the victory. Sonoma State improved to 9-2-3 as they out-shot the Coyotes 17-6. Quarles’ shot came two minutes into the game. By Greg Avetisyan |Staff Writer| Coyote’s Women Soccer goalkeeper and senior captain Chelsey Jones is halfway through her final season with the Coyotes. Jones recently received her second California Collegiate Athletic Association player of the week honor after holding Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles scoreless in 1-0 victories. Furthermore, Jones now leads the CCAA with seven overall shutouts this season. As a child, her parents called her the fire engine, because of how much energy she had, so family friends suggested to get Jones involved in sports. Women’s Soccer kicking into a great season start
By Richard Burrud | Staff Writer Coyote Women’s Soccer team took their fifth win in Sundays game against California State University of Los Angeles. The Golden Eagles and Coyotes were tied at the half, until freshman Paige Kang was able to capitalize on a rebound in overtime and was the difference maker in a close game against the Golden Eagles. Coyote defense held strong and according to Coach Travis Clarke, “if the team is able to score at least one goal in a game we have a great chance of winning”. Women’s soccer remain positive as season comes to end
By Lindsey Allen |Staff Writer| The CSUSB women’s soccer team wrapped up their season last week on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay, ending the season 9-7-2 overall and 7-7-1 in the CCAA. This is the fifth consecutive winning season for the Coyotes, which is a school record. The team finished fifth in the CCAA out of 12 teams. “We played really well with a lot of new, young players. I think some of our losses were due to youth and inexperience ... we had games where we started eight freshman. Chelsey Jones: diligent hard worker
By Lindsey Allen |Staff Writer| Chelsey Jones is a diligent student and honored athlete working hard to achieve her dreams. Jones began playing soccer when she was six years old and never looked back. She participated in other sports while growing up such as volleyball, basketball and track, but chose to pursue soccer. “It’s by far the sport I am best at; it’s been with me since I was little. I enjoy it and it’s something I’m passionate about,” said Jones. After receiving a presidential scholarship to attend CSUSB, Jones is now the captain of the women’s soccer team while playing as their goalkeeper.
