California is leading the race to go green and the I.E. is already preparing

June 5, 2019 by Danielle Makhlouf 93 Comments

California has been setting multiple goals in hopes to combat climate change. The state has been recently hit with devastating wildfires aggravated by climate change. A new bill was signed requiring the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles by 2040. Now that the bill has been signed its time to consider what needs to be done in order to reach this goal. The transportation center here on campus has put together a series of events with speakers on reaching this goal. This six-part series was put together to get a dialogue about how the transportation industry may be putting a lot of strain on the environment. We had four different speakers from different industries that are going to … [Read more...] about California is leading the race to go green and the I.E. is already preparing

Is copycat culture killing original music in the Inland Empire?

March 13, 2019 by Chris De La Ossa 2 Comments

Every day local musicians such as myself gather in garages and studios around the Inland Empire to create, practice and record original music. Bands spend thousands on gear and travel to play gigs with hopes of gaining fans and some extra cash. There are ample amounts of bands that dedicate themselves to genres ranging from Metal to Folk and anywhere in between. With tribute bands taking over the bars and venues that actually pay talent, it makes an artist such as myself question what the future holds for unknown musicians that want to play original songs rather than covers. But rather than get bogged down with the popularity of regurgitated tunes, I sought optimism from other … [Read more...] about Is copycat culture killing original music in the Inland Empire?

February 27, 2019 by Dusty Alexander 131 Comments

The rise of housing costs for students of CSUSB is one of the factors leading to a higher rate of homelessness for students here, commented Madeline Zhuo, an employee at a food pantry, in response to the topics raised by the rally in Sacramento. On Feb. 20 student leaders, college executives, and legislators rallied at the state capital for financial aid reform to combat food insecurity, lack of shelter, and wellbeing issues that plague California college students. Mia Kagianas, president of the Cal State Student Association, struck at the heart of the issue during her opening remarks. “Our state and our nation are experiencing a higher education renaissance,” Kagianas said. “Issues … [Read more...] about Students, Administrators, and Legislators Rally to Fix Financial Aid

In the US Senate election, incumbent Diane Feinstein beat the challenging Democrat Kevin De Leon. The festival itself was held in between the backside of the Smiley Library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine near downtown Redlands. “I had always dreamed of having an outdoor art festival modeled after La Jolla or La Quinta where you bring in artist, professional and otherwise for the weekend”, said Shirley Harry, Chairman of the Redlands Festival of Arts board. The Ultimate Ghost Town

May 29, 2017 by Manuel Sandoval 9 Comments

By Manny Sandoval |Contributing Writer  The City of Redlands is deemed to be one of the most haunted towns in America. From apparitions of a boy swinging on a swing at Mariposa Elementary School, to hearing footsteps run across the stage at Prospect Park to an even more frightening demonic face that appears inside The Barton Mansion. Ending Student Hunger on CSU Campuses

April 28, 2017 by Brittanie Gutierrez 66 Comments

By Brittanie Gutierrez |Staff Writer| College can be—and is—expensive. Students often have to sacrifice certain things in order to afford their education, but food should never be one of them. Assembly Bill 453 (AB-453) was presented to CA Legislature to fight student hunger among California State Universities by requiring campuses to implement a meal plan donation program on April 25. AB-453 was introduced by Assembly Member Monique Limón after Assembly Bill 214 (AB-214), a bill that "would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to reduce the incidence of hunger and homelessness among college students in California [...] provide definitions of “on-campus … [Read more...] about Ending Student Hunger on CSU Campuses
