School is coming to an end and the weather is starting to change; summer is almost back coyotes!

There is something about summer we all love, and a fresh music playlist is ideal for creating memories of those long warm nights.

Many summer anthems seem to bear certain similarities depicting upbeat sounds, themes of friendship and love and lounging away with a drink in hand.

With that being said, here are some of CSUSB students’ top favorite songs for this summer.

One Direction seems to be the boy band that never goes away, and despite the recent loss of Zayn Malik, their song “No Control” is still on repeat.

The track is off their album “Four,” and it displays heavy influences of poppy R&B sounds.

“Well first of all it’s One Direction, any of their songs are perfect for any season,” said student Rebecca Newton.

Another track that can be put into the same genre is the song “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf****r,” by music group Maroon 5.

The mixture of love themes and heavy pop sounds showcase the group’s ability to churn out banging anthems.

The mainstream favorite Jason Derulo released “Want to Want Me” in March and it has quickly become a “summer love,” song according to student Christina Ramos.

“It’s a really good song to listen to with your boyfriend or girlfriend while you’re road tripping to the beach or something,” she added.

But if you’re looking for a little something different than the usual summer time radio flare, electronic music has become a must for some students.

Although on the later side of the release date, “Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun is still a summer go-to for fans.

It’s the perfect blend of gentle experimental electro sounds developed by the duo at the time of its release, which resembles bands like MGMT.

Other electronic dance favorites from students include last year’s “Summer” by Calvin Harris and a slew of extended remixes from DJs such as Amtrac, taking on the duo Axwell∧Ingrosso’s “Something New.”

One of the most popular albums going into the summer is Fall Out Boy’s “American Beauty/American Psycho,” which was released in January.

A lead single off the album, “Irresistible,” has been described as a booming bass packed anthem perfect for party filled nights.

“I just love the album,” said student Citlally Saldana, “It’s the kind of exciting that makes me want to go out and see the world,” she added.

You can catch them August 10 on tour this summer with rapper Wiz Khalifa at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Another album to include in this playlist is none other than A$AP Rocky’s “At.Long.Last.A$AP,” which he released last week.

Many of the tracks on the album such as “A.L.L.A.,” “Jukebox Joints” and “L$D” are displays of empowerment by Rocky as an artist that have left the tunes on repeat in many listeners’ heads.

These tracks are just the tip of the iceberg and a jumping off point to creating your summer playlist, and with more music to come your collection will grow.

Have some fun under the sun and enjoy this student selected playlist!
