Traditional waffles have always been a tasty morning breakfast, but now healthy eating changed the game by introducing protein waffles.
The difference between them is the protein added to the waffles.
In majority of the recipes, the protein that is mixed in is whey.
The recipe of my favorite protein waffles consist of oats, whey protein powder, baking powder, one egg white, one-fourth cup of plain nonfat Greek yogurt and one TB of milk.
Once you have all the ingredients necessary you can begin to make your protein waffles.
“I make protein waffles every week to fill my morning macros, and I love how I can change it up every time,” said student Jermaine Lynne Mendoza.
“Sometimes I add chocolate chips, other times I add strawberries or blueberries it just depends,” said Mendoza.
The recipes for protein waffles vary; there are so many varieties to choose from.
“I’ve never had protein waffles, but if I were to make some I would add peanut butter, chocolate chips and Greek yogurt,” said student Cole Hagle.
Once you get the basics down on how to make them, the rest is just satisfying what you are craving at the moment.
Blend all the dry ingredients first, then add all the wet ingredients.
Once you have added the wet ingredients you want to continue to blend well.
The final step is pouring the mix into the waffle maker.
Give it six to eight minutes to cook and your waffles will be ready.
They are easy to make and you can fit them to your preferred taste—in many ways.
“I’ve heard protein waffles are a new trend and are very popular to get your source of protein,” said student Abigail Querubin.
Protein waffles help as another fun way to increase protein consumption.
According to WebMD, protein is definitely an important building block when it comes to your bones, muscle, cartilage, skin and blood.
“If you are trying to gain muscle mass, protein is essential to your diet,” said CSUSB Fitness/Wellness Coordinator Barry Greene Jr.
This is why many body builders look to protein shakes and bars to make sure their protein intake is sufficient.
“If we eat the right foods we can get enough protein, I rather it comes from my food source,” said Greene.
There are a variety of foods that consist of the protein necessary to gain muscle.
When the majority of people decide to start a high protein diet they focus on healthy protein choices, such as eggs, cottage cheese, ground beef, chicken breast, salmon, light tuna and many more.
Although a high protein diet seem beneficial, there are some negative effects to the lifestyle.
One of these effects is that high protein diets consist of a very low amount of carb intake.
“If your consumption of protein is very high but your carb intake low, it can change your metabolism to ketosis,” according to WebMD.
This can cause people to have appetite loss, such as loss of water weight and not enough nutrients in the body.
High protein diets have their benefits and also their negative effects.
When wanting to follow a high protein diet, you have to find the right balance.
This includes not eliminating all carbohydrates, or over doing it with excessive amounts of protein.
If you have found your perfect balance, and are looking for a tasty way to get your protein intake you should definitely give protein waffles a try.
It is a healthy way to get your protein source—and tastes really good.
